Most golfers prefer using a grass practice tee, but artificial mats are necessary – and beneficial – for a variety of reasons.
Some courses simply don’t have the space or resources for a grass tee, so mats are their only option. Those that do have a grass practice tee, often find that it isn’t big enough to keep up with demand. They can’t rotate the stations enough for areas to fully heal, and the divots just keep adding up.
To give the tee time to recover, golfers have to use mats. Sometimes it’s for a couple of days each week.
In other cases, mats might be used more often than not. It all depends on how big the grass tee is, how much play it gets, and what the weather is like. When the weather isn’t good for divot recovery, mats have to be used more often. A good example is during late fall, winter and early spring, when most grasses are growing slowly, if at all. Divots taken during these times can take months to recover!

We shipped a 102 putters this month at @HannaGolfCo!
Previous high was 71 for us.
We shipped more putters this month than all of May, June, July combined of last year.
One of our goals this year was to crack 100 in a month. So pumped we were able to get it done.
Can’t thank the people enough that believe in us. And that follow along.
When I quit my job two years ago I knew nothing about CNC mills. Never had even seen one. It’s been an awesome journey.
And the best part is I think we are still in the bottom of the first inning. No outs. We can get better in many areas.
PS: 102 putters was hard as hell. Had more go wrong than went right. Worked too many nights and weekends. But if it was easy everyone would do it.
PPS: If you’re still reading this. Thank you - you’re awesome. Drop a guess of how many putters we shipped this week. First one to get it right we will ship a towel to on Tuesday.

@caddietales What I don’t get on his decision to look in Rory’s bag is they had only played one hole together.
It’s not like they were in the same group yesterday where JJ would have a “fresh judgement” on comparing their distances. Trust yourself and trust your caddie…

Gotta be careful with that. It assumes...
- You hit same/similar stock yardages
- You'll hit similar ball flight
- They picked the right club
Mostly it shows a lack of confidence in himself and his caddie (which was evidenced later in the hole even more)
We see players do it all the time. And sure, it might just be a reference point from someone they play with all the time. But I'd advise strongly against picking your club based on what someone else picks.

Last summer, I quit my job. My wife and I emptied our bank account. I went out and bought two CNC mills to start a putter company - @HannaGolfCo. I was planning on launching the company in February. It couldn't be that hard, right? Well, I had never operated a CNC mill before. I'd never used CAD or CAM before. It's been the hardest year of my professional career—hard as hell. I've thought about quitting and selling my machines multiple times. But I am a grinder and underdog. I can't quit. I had to see it through. So today, I am launching Hanna Golf. A boutique putter maker. Putters designed by me and milled by me. Built by an underdog for the underdog. Why putters? I've been looking for the putter I used in college every year since I graduated. I can never find it. So a couple of years ago, I sketched a design, had my brother-in-law design it in CAD, and had a friend mill it for me. I loved that project. I loved creating and building something. And we are only on this earth one time. Life is short. Let's give it a run. I am proud of how far I've come. For a guy that sat behind a desk his whole career to teaching myself how to operate a CNC mill has been rewarding. We have three designs right now; a fourth is prototyped. The putters are good. And they will continue to get better. Shout out to everyone who has followed my journey so far. It's crazy to me that people read my writing. I am humbled and grateful.
