My brain: 'We should write something profound today.' Me: 'Best I can do is a tweet about how I keep looking in the fridge despite knowing there's nothing in there except cold water and a cabbage.'

BABA WE MARUDZI HAVANA DEFEAT…💰🤑💸🇿🇼🇿🇼🇿🇼 Spreading LOVE will always WIN over negativity, HATRED and the endless SENSELESS conspiracy theories that seek to divide rather than unite us. I am PLEASED to announce that I will WHOLEHEARTEDLY honour my commitment by paying a record-breaking US$1 MILLION for these two shows at US$500,000 per show. This will make the legendary THOMAS TAFIRENYIKA MAPFUMO the HIGHEST PAID SINGER ever in the history of our beloved country. I say a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to you, MUKANYA, my best singer of all time, for making this decision consciously and INDEPENDENTLY, without any influence from the NAYSAYERS who have never contributed anything meaningful to your WELFARE or to your extraordinary legacy. This is my small way of thanking you for your IMMENSE contribution to Zimbabwe’s music and arts industry over the years, and, more importantly, for the INSPIRATION your music provided during the LIBERATION struggle that brought about our historic and precious INDEPENDENCE . Your music has EDUCATED, inspired, UNITED and comforted generations of Zimbabweans, and your legacy will continue to live on for many years to come. As soon as our house KUMUSHA, ku GANDAMI is complete towards the end of November or by MID DECEMBER, we shall also have the greatest honour of welcoming you to KUGARA HUDA ESTATE ku GANDAMI ku WILTSHIRE for our housewarming celebrations. It will be a truly SPECIAL occasion to host a living legend whose music has become part of Zimbabwe’s history and identity. THANK YOU MUKANYA for everything you have done for our NATION and for instilling unity and identity through CHIMURENGA music. 👏👏👏 #Baba_We_Marudzi #Mukanya #Thomas_Tafireyi_Mapfumo #Chimurenga_Music #Living_Legend #Kugara_Huda #MWM

Historical Facts
Historical Facts@HistoryFactou·
THE CHAUKE CLAN In Shangani (Vatsonga) oral tradition, the Chauke‑to‑Xhinyorhi line is part of a broader Chauke clan that traces its ancestors through a long chain of named patriarchs, with Bhangwani (often spelled Bangwani or Bangwane) appearing as a key ancestor in the genealogy. The totem “Chauke” (often associated with the giant snail or with fire symbolism) is said to have originated in the hunter‑gatherer era of the Chauke‑Changana in southeastern Zimbabwe, when the clan acquired fire from a rival group (sometimes called Hlungwani) and came to adopt the giant African snail as a symbol of survival and resilience. Lineage and title “Xhinyorhi.” Among the Chauke‑Hlengwe lineage, Tsandza Chavani is often cited as the father of Chauke Humba, whose son is Xinyorhi (Xhinyorhi). This means that “Xhinyorhi” is not a separate totem but a personal name or praise‑title borne by a specific forefather in the Chauke line, and later used as a clan‑marker or praise‑name for descendants of that branch. Chauke and Bhangwani Genealogical lists place Bhangwani (Bangwani) several generations after Xinyorhi, as the father of Matsena, who then fathers other named sons and daughters in the extended Chauke‑Hlengwe line. If in your local tradition Chauke is said to be “the son of Bhangwani,” that likely reflects a segmental or localized version of the same lineage, where “Chauke” in this context is a shortened form of “Chauke of Xhinyorhi” or a later title‑bearer carrying the Chauke‑Xhinyorhi heritage. Totemic symbolism among the Shangani Among the Shangani (Tsonga‑Shangaan) people, mitupo (totems) function as both clan identifiers and moral‑environmental symbols: the Chauke‑to‑Xhinyorhi segment is thus remembered both through its personal‑name‑line (Tsandza–Chauke Humba–Xinyorhi–Bhangwani–descendants) and through shared totem‑meanings such as fire, endurance, and the giant snail. Some elders say that eating the snail (totem animal) brings harm such as losing teeth, reinforcing the idea that Chauke‑Xhinyorhi descendants are bound to respect and protect that totem, not just inherit the name.
