@sigbalata @NanaruruVT I think there are scenarios where this is beneficial! But if someone on the smaller scale is making content, it’s better to not have viewers jumping channels to search for their content hehe, however I have no analytical proof to back anything up, so take it with a grain of salt!

The title for this is kind of disingenuous. Shorts, for some people, will suck. Shorts, for other people, will boom. One of the main issues I see arise from smaller vtubers doing shorts is the editing and pacing be a bit on the lower side. This can't be avoided in some (1/7)
Vtuber Consulting@VtuberConsult

VTubers, please be aware that shorts are a bit overrated right now. The big numbers look good, and previous generations of VTubers popped off from them. But (especially for smaller VTubers) they aren't what they once were. My main point is highlighted in red at the bottom.

Hey man. While, I think your heart is in a good place giving this advice, none of what you’re suggesting is actually rooted in data nor is it any sort of strategy that is actually valid right now. For context, I partnered with @FlorkOfCows to run and produce his YouTube channel. We average anywhere between 25 and 50 million views a month on short form. I also do strategy for multiple other VTubers and creators as well as major brands and shorts STILL play a major role in our top of funnel viewer acquisition strategy. I personally do north of 3-5m+ views a month just on my personal Instagram with a very basic content strategy that anyone can follow. If the advice of what you’re saying is just don’t do stream cut downs and turn and burn on them, that’s sound but obvious advice. Section 1, Point A: I have spoken with many people at Meta, YT, and TikTok. Their algorithms do not prioritize anything that “can go viral.” They prioritize content that keep people watching as long as humanly possible to sell ad space. That’s it. Nothing else. So anything that engages, entertains, and retains and IS DESIGNED TO DO THAT, *WILL* go viral. To say that their algorithms only prioritize things that have the chance to go viral, and nothing else is a gross oversimplification of how these platforms prioritize content. Section 1, Part B: yes, making non-Vtuber centric-content that is either storytelling, educational, or entertaining in manner that isn’t just about the thing that they do day and day out and has a wider chance of top of funnel acquisition has the chance to go viral. That’s just basic storytelling, but utilizing short form as the vehicle. Section 2 Part A: shorts should not be seen to convert people to streams, or even to grow following. Followers are no longer the priority for the majority of platforms. Instead, it is overall views and reach. Shorts should only be seen as adding to algorithmic weight and overall brand awareness + media awareness. Each short created needs to be treated as a bullet. The more bullets you have, the more chances you have of hitting your target. But further, shorts can no longer just be clips. Section 2, Part B: I have multiple channels that are north of 1 million subscribers that are hiring more short editors. These are channels that are putting out 1 to 3 shorts a day. For some people yes they are deep prioritizing shorts, and prioritizing longform content that have higher RPMs, but for others, they are playing a volume play and have the infrastructure to support that. Section 3: The channels that you are referencing and how they have shorts that aren’t “popping off,” are outlier macro creators. The majority of the people that you are trying to target in your consulting and your content strategy are not or will not be making the same types of content— and further, these are also channels that also are in atrophy in terms of audience sentiment. Section 4, Part B: Clipping channels may be working for now but again that’s purely because of volume. The shorts that do well are the ones that say something, do something, encourage a conversation etc. but to say that shorts shouldn’t be a focus for people is misguided and suggesting clipping should be the focus is dated advice. TLDR, I recognize that you want to help, but I find this advice misguided and not fully rooted in fact.

Be careful listening to random advice accounts, be careful listening to people who provide services. At the end of the day their goal is to make you a client for a paycheck. Look closely if they apply those tips to themselves. “This will give you growth” observe if they applied these practices to themselves, if they did not, why? If they boast about practices that boost your numbers observe their clients, are they at a place you want to be? Money is tight. If you’re starting out it’s tighter. Take your time and carefully discern who you listen to.

Shorts are absolutely not the same as they were 5 years ago, but instead of complaining and moaping that they're not as good; adapt. Find a different use for them. Anything positive that gets new eyes on you is a win. (7/7)

multistream to YouTube and schedule your lives there, your shorts will have a little widget right above the title saying "Live in [Time Until Stream]". The feeling of someone coming to a stream and saying "I found you through shorts!" is unbelievably worth the slow burn. (6/7)
