This is Prof Douglas Chamberlain who created the role of Paramedic in the UK.
6 Ambulance Men from Brighton were chosen to undergo cardiac & emergency training, they began treating patients on 4 March 1971.

I spoke on @BBCRadioWales this morning about the impacts of handover delays after declaring an incident yesterday. Interview starts at 1h8m into the show. Still some very long handover delays across Wales, longest is nearly 23 hours this morning.
