For decades, UM has fluctuated between "bad" and "pretty good".
In 1999, they finished #5 in the AP Poll...
...then didn't have another Top-5 finish for 21 years.
They're plucky. They're Big Ten Boise.
True, they've had incredible peaks. But check this out...
UM has "won" 2 titles since 1948.
Did you know they're the only 2 contested championships of the modern era?
1. 1997
-Anyone can watch the closing seconds of the 1998 Rose Bowl and see Washington State (trailing by 5) was cheated out of a final play just outside the red zone.
-All objective analytical models (i.e. Sagarin, SP+) heavily favor Nebraska over Michigan, and it's not close.
This title should not have been shared.
-Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson was ineligible by rule after multiple documented examples of accepting cash, gifts, and travel came to light
2. 2023
This "title" is best summarized by a simple bit of trivia:
In November 2023, Jim Harbaugh became the first coach in the history of American sports to be suspended twice in one year without losing his job.
He then broke his own record with a 3rd suspension months later.
All 3 suspensions stemmed from competitive advantage violations (cheating).
All 3 were either self-imposed, or unopposed.
(a 4th sanction arrived later, effectively banning Harbaugh from the sport for 14 years; 4 years longer than the guy who operated Louisville Basketball’s brothel)
These are objective facts, and they tell the story of Michigan Football.
Indeed, every 25 years or so, Michigan elevates above its normal standard.
When they do, books are written about the illegitimacy of the anomaly.

Ohio State has been unjustly maligned for decades.
People obsess over their losses in big games.
But when you’re in a lot more “big games” than anyone else, you’ll have a few more losses.
Since hiring Jim Tressel in 2002, they have:
- 3 national championships (tied for 2nd-most)
- an 86.6% win percentage (1st in FBS, Boise St. 2nd at 81.3%)
- 18 seasons with 11+ wins (Alabama has 15, Georgia has 11, Michigan has 5 if you count the 3-year cheating window)
Perhaps even more impressive than their “highs” is the total absence of “lows”.
They’re literally always good.
Excluding Fickell’s interim year, Ohio State has won 8+ games every season since the Tressel hire.
And even that 8-4 year (2004) was a one-time outlier. They’ve won 10+ games every other season.
The only other program in the conversation is Alabama.
In the last 25 years:
Each school has seasons of 7-5 and 6-7.
If we cancel those out, their worst seasons are:
ALABAMA
3-8
4-9
6-6
7-6
20-29 (.408)
OHIO STATE
8-4
8-4
10-3
10-2
36-13 (.735)
When both programs are at their worst, Ohio State wins 32.7% more than Alabama.
Ohio State has won 3 national championships with 3 different coaches.
Alabama has won 6 national championships with 1 coach.
3 coaches winning titles is a testament to the Ohio State program.
1 coach winning titles is a testament to Nick Saban.
Ohio State has the best program in America.
Only 1 program is close, and it’s a free-fall from Everest to whatever tier is below them.

Official Ohio State DG@DylanEveryday
Ohio State is just a cut above. Also to add, since the BCS michigan averages 4.2 losses a season* Excludes 3 year cheating window

Three years ago, we lost a great man. Hope you enjoy the read below.
Michael Deegan@CoachDeegan
In August, I lost one of my heroes- someone on my personal board of directors. Writing this was therapy for me. It also reminded me how lucky I was to have Mark in my life. I know after reading, you'll see why I feel so fortunate. conta.cc/3XUopJi
