@dn12179 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow You can only compare days worked, not total days in the year. In the US, most people have a 40 hour work week, which means 2 days off each week. So again, with no vacation and no holidays, they work 260 days, not 365. I am done trying to explain basic employment math to you.

I don’t want to hear one more peep from the rich about forgiving my student loans after the millions (maybe billions?) of dollars of military money we’re currently using to locate a missing billionaire on an exorbitantly priced vacation excursion. #Titanic

@Beetqueen2 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow Then you're admitting, that your work 200 days a year out of 365 days a year so you get 165 days off a year. It's not complicated. Not true about the unpaid time. you know what the pay schedule is, you sign a contract for it. You get your pay in equal instalments all year.

@dn12179 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow 200 is not half of 261. That 261 means the employee gets no vacation and no federal holidays off, both of which most American workers get. That's an additional 22 days most workers get off 200/239. After working for a company for 25 years, most people get added vacation time.

@dn12179 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow Except the average work week is 5 days a week not 7. But if you'd like me to count in all the time I spend grading and planning outside of class that is not compensated for I'm happy to do that for you. During the school year I average about 60 hours a week.

@dn12179 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow If you take out weekends the average worker only works 260 days a year. Then you factor in vacation time. My husband has been at his company for 5 years and gets 3 weeks of vacation So that takes it down to 245. He also gets federal holidays off, which takes that down to 233.

@Beetqueen2 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow No you don't. If your contract is for 200 days that still leaves you sitting at home for 165 days divided by 7= roughly 24 weeks a year. 6x the average vacation schedule of a blue collar worker. Deny you can retire at 55 and receive what kind of pension for the rest of your life.

@dn12179 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow Clearly there is a misconception if you think that teachers only work half a year. I don't know where 25 weeks came from, but one of our semesters is 18 weeks, and we have two a year. And we also have days that we are contracted before the school year starts and after it ends

@Beetqueen2 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow There's no misconception. You didn't answer the question. Why should a teacher be paid, as much, for working half of the year, as opposed to a blue collar worker, who may get 4 weeks off a year.

@dn12179 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow The only reason my profession or pay was brought up was to look at how wages have not kept up with the cost of living or inflation in this country. But then again you don't believe people deserve a living wage for doing full-time work.

@dn12179 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow Interestingly, my husband who works in the financial sector, only works about 20 days more a year than I do. Why? Because of the 260 work days, he gets vacation time and federal holidays off. Those are not counted into teacher's contract days.

@dn12179 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow We are only paid for our contract days. I am contracted for 200 days a year. The rest of the time I am not paid. However my check is withheld and paid as if I work all 52 weeks of the year. I'm surprised that you have a son in education and you don't know this fact.

@dn12179 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow Yes, everyone who does a job that's society needs or wants does in fact deserve a living wage. The whole point of having a job is so that you can pay to live your life. One's job, does not determine how important their life is or whether or not they deserve to live one.

@Beetqueen2 @brit_016 @real_Maiia @LawBar6000 @ScottEnlow The problem is you. You want your cake and to eat it too. You love your job but your job pays at a certain level and you think it's society's fault. A fry cook at McDonald's loves his job but the pay is crap. Does society owe him a living wage? What's the difference?

@msmaysunshine @adamfare1996 Such a toxic award to have. Your job should never be more important then your health. Not to mention all those who come to work sick and then infect others just so they can get their special bonus.

@lilsquirt_ @adamfare1996 Perfect attendance is the ultimate participation trophy. You are literally getting award just for participating. Actually, you don't even have to participate, you just have to physically be in a seat. That is what the award is for.

@lilsquirt_ @adamfare1996 There is no hard work that goes into sitting in a classroom all day. No one says students are achieving or doing anything wonderful, just that they are physically present. Being physically present shouldn't win you an award.
