It’s ironic and honestly pretty disappointing that so many of us, myself included, were out there every day campaigning for Lucy Connolly, Wayne O’Rourke, and others who got locked up over hurty words. We made noise, raised awareness, and fought for their freedom when the system tried to silence them. Yet now, after all that support helped keep her story in the spotlight (which played a big part in the attention she’s gotten), Lucy blocks me simply for pointing out how much harsher the system has treated Wayne. He’s still struggling badly under stricter licence conditions, no media access, can’t tell his story, constant probation checks, and far less public backing, way less money raised for him, while she’s been able to do interviews, rebuild, and move forward more freely.she even has a book coming out! Instead of showing some empathy or solidarity for someone who went through the same ordeal (but arguably worse), she dismisses him, looks down on his situation, and attacks those highlighting it. Then blocks who calls it out. 😂 If it wasn’t for the noise from people like us, she (and others) might have been forgotten long ago. The spotlight she has now owes a lot to that collective effort plus, the fact that she’s a woman got her more sympathy and coverage than a working-class straight guy like Wayne ever would. I genuinely thought she’d stand up for him, or at least show basic compassion for his ongoing struggles. Turns out not. The two-tier treatment is glaring, and it’s sad to see it divide people who should be on the same side against the real problem: the system that jailed them in the first place.
