Nicolas is pure evil, and attaches himself to the demonic priestess (Immoless), Allyra. Horror and desire converge within him. Immortalis is extreme horror mixed with pitch-black romance, absurdist theatrics, and dark humour (much of it has to be toned down for social media, with entire sections omitted altogether). The Premise: Primus, The Darkness, and his consort, Lilith, were the first beings. Their son, Theaten, wielded too much power, and Lilith planned to betray Primus. To secure himself, Primus fathered a second heir, Nicolas, through his Baer clan lover. Nicolas later had a son of his own, Behmor, after a Djinn twisted one of his wishes. These beings are known as the Immortalis. Each possesses two bodies: the Vero, the conscious self, and the Evro, the embodiment of primal instinct. Nicolas, however, was given something unique. Primus granted him the ability to fracture his psyche into multiple separate bodies, known as alters. The existence of the Immortalis led to mortal unrest and eventually The War Before the Dusk. In the aftermath, the opposing factions formed a covert agreement designed to preserve peace, order, and taxation through ritualised conflict. Once every century, the mortal Electi breed two Immolesses to challenge the Immortalis. These women are never meant to survive. They exist as political sacrifices. The story begins during the 16th century P.V. dispatch of the Immolesses. Due to an administrative error, however, a third Immoless is born: Allyra. Rejected by much of the Electi cult, she instead finds refuge among the Baers, who teach her how to survive. Rather than confronting Nicolas or Theaten directly, Allyra makes a deal with Irkalla, Hell itself. She sacrifices her Electi priests in exchange for Immortalis blood, placing herself under Irkallan protection for the duration of the contract. Before this agreement, Allyra becomes sexually involved with Nicolas, something that leaves him increasingly restless. His fixation deepens further when he appoints himself her protector within the immortal world. Nicolas introduces Allyra to the world of the Immortalis and his home, and torture playground, Corax Asylum, through bloody theatres, circuses, spectacles, and elaborate slaughters disguised as entertainment. He uses humour, manipulation, indulgence, and extreme cruelty, countered with adoration, to draw her deeper into his world while appearing to help her acquire full sovereign blood. Or so it seems. Nicolas and his alters may possess a hidden agenda, one far more sinister than Allyra realises. As she descends deeper into his world, she ceases to be an observer and gradually becomes a participant. Inch by inch, her morals erode alongside her sense of identity and perception of reality. Consumed by the Immortalis world, Allyra finds herself trapped in a relationship she never truly agreed to with Nicolas, while also becoming entangled with his alters, particularly his Evro, Chester, and his most unstable alter, Nicodemus. The final blood required is Lilith’s, a matter that leads to a war, of sorts. After that, the struggle for sovereignty becomes one between Allyra and Nicolas. They begin as uneasy allies, but ultimately only one of them can win, and at each turn the truth about Nicolas grows increasingly darker. #extremehorror #horror #books #darkromance

The reason Nicolas attaches himself to Allyra is not some romantic she's-the-one trope, but a response to Allyra not finding him as repulsive, as everyone else does. Nicolas, being socially inept (his circle being versions of himself) interprets that as a huge come-on. Behmor, Nicolas's son, tells Allyra that because she did not find him as utterly repulsive as everyone else this sort of high praise only encouraged him. Allyra, by and large, simply wasn't paying attention as she was busy trying not to die. Part of the dark humour is the Nicolases misinterpreting every cue, and their constant reframing of Allyra's discourse to suit themselves. This, of course, gets darker and darker. Allyra is not afraid of Nicolas, not for any Mary-Sue reason, but because she was raised in a death cult of assholes and has nothing left to fear. Or so she thinks.
