I know it's already been a few days, but I just wanna express how grateful I am to have experienced this journey with all you guys. We have not been favourited in a lot of the games but yet we still found a way to make it work, despite the circumstances. Belgian football is only going to be better from now on, excited to see what this next season has in store for us, what next superstars we are going to discover. Youri Tielemans is about to take the major step in his career by joining Manchester United, his first truly elite club. It’s a move that has felt inevitable ever since he was a teenager. He’s not a physical freak or an explosive athlete who covers huge spaces with pace, but cognitively and technically he’s among the very best midfielders in world football. His ability to play through pressure, dictate the tempo with composure, and pick out De Bruyne-esque passes is elite. He’s also a genuine goal threat from distance and, over the last few months with Belgium as a captain, he’s added another dimension to his game: making perfectly timed runs into the box to get on the end of crosses and finish moves. He is a classy footballer who thinks faster than almost everyone else on the pitch. Defensively, he does a solid job, but he gets the best out of his game when partnered with a more defensive-minded midfielder, especially if Bruno Fernandes is playing ahead of him. Tielemans is also an excellent transition player, capable of launching attacks quickly and carrying the ball from one end of the pitch to the other. He’s coming off an great World Cup with Belgium and under Michael Carrick at Old Trafford, with Champions League football, he’ll finally get the platform to demonstrate his quality in front of a global audience. Fresh from winning the Europa League with Aston Villa, everything feels in place for him to make the biggest leap of his career.
