I always had a lot of respect for Strauss just being a pretty smart guy. I think he's exactly right and I think people are overdramatizing the effect AI will have on everything. It's just another nice tool in the toolbox, but it being able to completely replace people is just a ridiculous idea that's clearly just being peddled to make investors throw tons of money at AI companies. What'll ultimately happen is that some of the monkey work we had to do in the past, we won't have to do anymore, so we'll be able to do more complex things in the future. That's about it. And that's actually pretty great. But so far, all the usefulness that I've seen from AI usually has to come with someone who already knows what he's doing driving it meticulously.
Shinobi602@shinobi602

Take-Two CEO: Laughable that AI could make a game like GTA “The notion that somehow new tools would allow an individual to push a button and generate a hit and bring it to many millions of consumers around the world, it’s a laughable notion. It’s just never been the case with entertainment. Right now [in music] there are programs that allow you to put out a prompt and get a professionally recorded song spit back out at you. It sounds like a song, but I defy you to listen to it more than once. It’s great to send as a greeting card to your partner on their birthday, but that’s about it". "Creating a hit of that magnitude does require human engagement and creativity", said Strauss Zelnick. ➡️ eurogamer.net/take-two-ceo-r…

@WholesomeRaf I get the point, but I believe what I outlined there is basically correct. (I have limited experience making a rendering engine from scratch. Was 12 years ago. C++ & OpenGL. Ofc, am not an authority on the field)

@BellularGaming I think you all spend to much effort trying to untangle Huang’s word salad meant only for investors “Enhace neural geometry processing nvidia dlss fine tuned generative next gen freedom pls gib $200B”

It slurps up motion vectors + colour buffer so it’s inferring the relationship between 3d geometry based on training data That training data isn’t the games own rendering pipeline (so, at a top level, the resulting art style). Meaning it’ll feel out of place on close up objects
Del@TheCartelDel

@IGN So they are now saying they are using gen-ai on the geometry now? lol

The last 24 hours or so have been a phenomenal litmus test for AI content, I am completely convinced that there is a sizable section of the population who are unable to perceive the uncanny valley. For all these people unless it's growing an extra limb AI now is photo realistic.

Jensen would say I’m being ‘classically’ brained. Fair, but the end-to-end process of simulation + hand-crafted tricks by people with taste and skill is itself a vital part of the resulting art. DLSS 5 breaks that chain!

As in, it’s after vertex transforms, rasterisation, pixel shading etc It’s inference based on an ML model of reality. Game rendering is a reality simulation DLSS5 is reprocessing the output of the classical process. As if it was at the geometry level. But it isn’t at that level

If the technique is opinionated in how it distributes ‘light’, then you’ll get the appearance of a different model even when geometry is identical DLSS 5 seems to be like that, which can feel like a change in lighting design …and therefore a change in how shape is perceived
Biggus Dickus@FSAPOJake

Grace Ashcroft's official model from Capcom presented at the highest quality possible VS Grace Ashcroft under the effects of DLSS 5. But tell me DLSS 5 does nothing to the face rendering.
