1.6 GW total capacity and one Utah project could eat 10%? That's either a huge opportunity or a bottleneck. Depends who scales first. UAE's already moving on this.

Fervo's IPO was big. But next-gen geothermal projects use turbines engineered in Italy. It's a (small) cleantech market that's mostly in European hands for now, though the US is prioritizing it. @RockyMtnInst says "The Geothermal Supply Chain Is America’s to Gain — or Lose"

If next-generation geothermal is to achieve national scale, we'll need a whole lot more geothermal hardware, from turbines to high-temperature drill bits. That's an opportunity for new American manufacturing: rmi.org/the-geothermal… Thanks @noah_gordon_ for the mention!

Seems to be flying enormously under the radar that Trump has banned wind power in the United States. A full 10% of our electricity. Just imagine if another administration did this extrajudicially to any other industry.

BIG SCOOP: Energy reps tell me the Trump administration is now extrajudicially blocking all new wind projects in the United States Apparently the Pentagon is refusing to sign off on FAA airspace clearances even when military assets aren’t around For @heatmap_news (link below)

Next-gen geothermal energy shows increasing promise as a reliable, ready-to-use source of energy in the US — if the equipment supply chain can be built. Manufacturing expertise from the oil and gas industry, targeted policy, and better data can help: ow.ly/jT5950YWasl

As we detail, different parts of the country can support different parts of the geothermal supply chain—and some places, like Houston and Tulsa, can support not just one but many segments of this supply chain as the industry scales up. rmi.org/the-geothermal…

We discuss the parts that these power plants will need, the places that can support the manufacture of these different parts, and the policies that can position the United States for investment as this industry grows. rmi.org/the-geothermal…

If next-generation geothermal power is to achieve liftoff and scale in America, we’ll need lots more geothermal hardware, and we’ll need to harden that hardware for higher-temperature conditions. That’s an opportunity for new manufacturing, and the United States should seize it.
