Talent take note: there can be more to brand endorsement deals than just cash for commercial rights. Harry Kane joins a prestigious list of athletes with lifetime sponsorship agreements, but this is likely to be no average boot deal. My @CityAM piece 👇🏼 cityam.com/why-harry-kane…

@AdamCrafton_ Not sure a consumer brand will purchase either but a few global brands alienation wouldn’t apply to. Same with front of shirt sponsors. Any of FAANG wouldn’t see a drop in bottom line $$, except perhaps in very localised areas which is minuscule % of customer base in grand scheme

I’d be very surprised if any consumer brand was to purchase Manchester United or Liverpool. Alienating customer base by allying with sports club that are popular among many but also deeply unpopular with many would be a risk.

Even though Budweiser may still have global brand awareness and alcohol sales across hospitality suites and fan festivals, the loss of revenue suffered as a result of no alcohol being sold in and around stadiums will have a tangible impact on a return on investment.

Budweiser will be able to take significant legal action as FIFA will have guaranteed the sale of products at stadiums, in addition to the ability to terminate its agreement with FIFA if the defaulting party – in this case FIFA – commits a material breach without remedy

This is hugely significant - the World Cup is the largest global sporting event on the planet and one of the most effective international marketing platforms reaching millions of people in over 200 countries throughout the globe. Quite the decision two days out...
