Career news🏈 I'm thrilled to join @espn/@ESPNPR as a Communications Manager, leading @CollegeGameDay (football) comms and supporting ESPN’s college sports portfolio. Growing up in a college football family, this opportunity is truly a dream. Can't wait to get started!

Wow! If you love seeing every single player on both teams flying to the ball, being coached up, balling out, playing their arses off until the final whistle, hope you saw the @NCAA_FCS championship tonight between @RedbirdFB and @MSUBobcats_FB - instant #CFB🏈 classic!

Many of same writers/fans/talking heads that complain of too many bowls or #CFB🏈 teams with 6-6 records playing in @BowlSeason are somehow also all-in on @NFL teams with LOSING records making the playoffs (and even HOSTING teams with winning records!). #CantMakeThisStuffUp

My brother, @BenSasse - I’m beyond humbled and grateful for your friendship. You are really and truly one of the brightest and most thoughtful people I’ve ever had the privilege to know. Your example has inspired me and so many others as you’ve lived your faith so evidently each day - having always embraced that you are here to serve, rather than be served. Melissa and your family have been gracious to not only allow, but encourage you to share your incredible gifts and talents with America and the world. We are all much better for it. Selfishly, I’m not ready for you to go - among other things, counting on more meaningful talks in the redwoods, distilling the essence of an intentional life and purposeful leadership, helping you lead the charge to reshape the enterprise of one of our shared passions - college sports! As you so eloquently share, when it is time, your reward will be incomprehensibly wonderful and you’ll surely meet my fantastic brothers Steve and Michael who I am convinced are Heavenly “WalMart” greeters(!), both having received their #AngelWings👼 at ages that seemed far too young to my folks and our family. But on this Christmas Eve, circling your family with love, and giving thanks for the one true and real gift✝️ and the promise it affords you and everyone who believes. Along with thousands upon thousands of prayer warriors, I’m praying for a Christmas miracle from the Great Healer - as well as steadfastly for you, your beautiful family, your doctors and care team, for peace…and for hope, always hope. Thank you for the enriching inspiration you are - a courageous man, faith warrior, incredible American🇺🇸, magnificent husband, father and friend. Love you, my brother.

Friends- This is a tough note to write, but since a bunch of you have started to suspect something, I’ll cut to the chase: Last week I was diagnosed with metastasized, stage-four pancreatic cancer, and am gonna die. Advanced pancreatic is nasty stuff; it’s a death sentence. But I already had a death sentence before last week too — we all do. I’m blessed with amazing siblings and half-a-dozen buddies that are genuinely brothers. As one of them put it, “Sure, you’re on the clock, but we’re all on the clock.” Death is a wicked thief, and the bastard pursues us all. Still, I’ve got less time than I’d prefer. This is hard for someone wired to work and build, but harder still as a husband and a dad. I can’t begin to describe how great my people are. During the past year, as we’d temporarily stepped back from public life and built new family rhythms, Melissa and I have grown even closer — and that on top of three decades of the best friend a man could ever have. Seven months ago, Corrie was commissioned into the Air Force and she’s off at instrument and multi-engine rounds of flight school. Last week, Alex kicked butt graduating from college a semester early even while teaching gen chem, organic, and physics (she’s a freak). This summer, 14-year-old Breck started learning to drive. (Okay, we’ve been driving off-book for six years — but now we’ve got paper to make it street-legal.) I couldn’t be more grateful to constantly get to bear-hug this motley crew of sinners and saints. There’s not a good time to tell your peeps you’re now marching to the beat of a faster drummer — but the season of advent isn’t the worst. As a Christian, the weeks running up to Christmas are a time to orient our hearts toward the hope of what’s to come. Not an abstract hope in fanciful human goodness; not hope in vague hallmark-sappy spirituality; not a bootstrapped hope in our own strength (what foolishness is the evaporating-muscle I once prided myself in). Nope — often we lazily say “hope” when what we mean is “optimism.” To be clear, optimism is great, and it’s absolutely necessary, but it’s insufficient. It’s not the kinda thing that holds up when you tell your daughters you’re not going to walk them down the aisle. Nor telling your mom and pops they’re gonna bury their son. A well-lived life demands more reality — stiffer stuff. That’s why, during advent, even while still walking in darkness, we shout our hope — often properly with a gravelly voice soldiering through tears. Such is the calling of the pilgrim. Those who know ourselves to need a Physician should dang well look forward to enduring beauty and eventual fulfillment. That is, we hope in a real Deliverer — a rescuing God, born at a real time, in a real place. But the eternal city — with foundations and without cancer — is not yet. Remembering Isaiah’s prophecies of what’s to come doesn’t dull the pain of current sufferings. But it does put it in eternity’s perspective: “When we've been there 10,000 years…We've no less days to sing God's praise.” I’ll have more to say. I’m not going down without a fight. One sub-part of God’s grace is found in the jawdropping advances science has made the past few years in immunotherapy and more. Death and dying aren’t the same — the process of dying is still something to be lived. We’re zealously embracing a lot of gallows humor in our house, and I’ve pledged to do my part to run through the irreverent tape. But for now, as our family faces the reality of treatments, but more importantly as we celebrate Christmas, we wish you peace: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned….For to us a son is given” (Isaiah 9). With great gratitude, and with gravelly-but-hopeful voices, Ben — and the Sasses

That time of year again. The “glass half empty” crowd of wolves howling for the demise of @BowlSeason are detached from reality: •TV ratings for #CFB🏈bowls are higher than ANY sport other than @NFL •Football players love to play football •By 90%+, players love the experience, the SWAG and now, they get paid to play •Opt-outs have ALWAYS been negligible - and now just like the pros, you don’t get paid your full contract unless you show up to play •41 teams get to hoist a trophy and claim a championship each year For those declaring the time has come to end the bowls, as @ESPNCFB notes, “The deader we pretend bowls are, the more entertaining they turn out to be!”

Hard to imagine knowing better people, greater Americans🇺🇸 than #BigBob & Michele McCreary. Provided inspiration, leadership, shared their hardearned resources with @WakeForest @DemonDeacons🎩 for decades. Her loss was tragic. But from her Heavenly perch she continues to inspire!
Wake Forest Demon Deacons@DemonDeacons

Michele Acosta McCreary was a fixture within the Wake Forest athletics family for decades. In August 2024, she passed away unexpectedly. The void she left has been a great one, and perhaps it is because Michele was truly one of a kind. Read more about Michele and the legacy she left behind. 📚 deacs.info/43dhcbP

I swear the #PreventDefense was invented by an offensive coordinator who probably wore a Groucho Marx disguise and sold it big-time at a defensive coordinator convention 50 years ago and is still laughing about it with his grandkids today.🏈🥸

Fellow said to me post-game, “he barely made it.” Didn’t know by how much mattered ‘cause it counts for 3 & a win! Great battle @Allegacy Stadium today as @WakeFB hands @SMUFB its 1st regular season league loss since joining @ACCFootball with last second FG from @ConnorCalvert22!
