If you stick the same evaluator in a stadium to see a 3 game live look against unknown quality pitching vs. giving them a video reel of every breaking ball a player has seen for two months, which way do you think produces better clarity on the player’s breaking ball recognition?

1.) this is easier to pick up on video because you can rewind
2.) it’s even easier to tell in the large data sets which exist for nearly every scouted level
3.) eye scouts can’t tell the difference between breaking balls most of the time either, something I have also written on

The ability to tell a slider from a curveball in a live look absolutely provides insight into the difficulties of hitting at a high level. I think this is just kinda wrong

@jaseidler To say “eye scouts can’t tell the differences between breakingballs” is absurd. It’s truly absurd. Also, unless you get video on everyone from every inning and AB you can’t adequately begin to scout because you have to monitor changes.

To think the data, video, etc you need to do this is available on every plyr (think HS, JC, small college, etc), let alone the changes/progressions they make throughout seasons shows how much you don’t understand the subject. Don't look at Wetjen as just the round. This is the 6th player Pittsburgh's selected.
When you have all those Day 2 picks, you can take a more niche (but still important) position like returner.

Kaden Wetjen averaged almost 27 yards per punt (!!) return this season. Six career scores (4 punts, 2 TDs).
Pittsburgh worst KR team last two years under new model. This guy is dynamic. Home run selection.
