A good 50% of the books suggested in English Literature curricula are self-indulgent, modern shit that no sane teenager wants to read.
Give them the classics, so that they actually get to partake in their own English cultural heritage.

Somehow there was a wasp in the hood of my hoodie! Didn't hear it, but felt something crawling back there. Reached back - it stung my finger - and then I pulled the hoodie off as quickly as I could. Rest assured, it's now dead. Death to all wasps. Vile creatures.
