If the Pope is going to get political, he's going to get a political response. A lot of people were not around here for Pope Francis! Gosh

I do believe that he didn’t think of this as a depiction of Jesus when posting. Still, there has to be more care and discernment here.

We give alms to the poor not for the poor’s sake but for our own sake, since it relieves our souls of attachment to earthly things. Coercive wealth redistribution as administered by modern States is not the same thing as almsgiving, because it lacks an act of the will, it lacks the correct end, and it prioritizes the secondary effect. Apply this same logic to the message on other of Our Lord’s directives—ransoming the captive, stewarding creation, promoting peace in the world—and you’ll see the general pattern of putting the cart before the horse. Restating Christ’s instructions but omitting the end purpose of loving Him more and being saved. In so doing, the Church resembles something closer to an advocacy NGO than an ark for souls as we endure modernity. Luckily there are holy priests who make the proper emphases, but they tend also to be those persecuted or at least not supported by Rome as she is currently occupied.

Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.

So God loves only American troops? Not innocent people who lost their lives in Iran? Where was God's "miraculous protection" for them? This is the inevitable result of believing that God is on "our side." It's making a false god in our image: a god who despises Iranians.

Hegseth: "God deserves all the glory. Tens of thousands of sorties, refuelings, and strikes, carried out under the protection of divine providence. A massive effort with miraculous protection."
