Took the day off and just been getting stuck in EVE-NG with ROSv7 stuff.

MikroTik's latest build ROSv7.21 seems to be a top contender to be the largest change log ROS has received since v7's release. I think the next build is very container centric though so not sure if it'll be everyone's cup of tea but it is a beefy change.

@AlbonyCal True the internet is massive and I know a few tech blogs that are great for information. But I can see in realtime massive places where most people engage with the internet like here/YT/Facebook/TikTok is flooded with either bots or AI content that drowns genuine ideas :/

I used to think the internet was a vast extension of realspace, where we shared our ideas and creativity and once in a while an into something shocking... Now... The internet feels so curated. When I open YouTube I'm flooded with AI slop I see now the dead internet theory is real

That was fast, Juniper changed their channel name on YouTube from Juniper Networks to HPE Juniper Networking. Yes Yes I know they were bought over in the start of 2024 and that it recently became for real. Curious to see how this shapes things going forward though.

@stubarea51 Yeah, it's awesome to see wish they did ESI-LAG themselves l! One cool thing I missed is the return of a route filter wizard which makes configuring filters similar to ROS6 again. Just happened to see it while being on the 7.20beta6 lab I am running.

In the last few weeks, #MikroTik has expanded their documentation on EVPN. It's encouraging to see they are testing the ROSv7 implementation against #Arista EOS to verify interoperability.

@Niclas78007 @mikrotik_com You could check with Scoop or Miro though I am not sure what they would charge for support if they did not sell the device to you.

@mikrotik_com #Mikrotik my Mikrotik Chateau 12 just died and the backup from LTE supplier does not come close to what we enjoyed with the Chateau. You could select which band to select and CA. #AppreciateMikrotik. @BergNetwork do you know a SA supplier that can troubleshoot

@DaryllSwer A massive problem I had was that with their MTCINE certification VPLS is a big portion of that and the fact that it doesn't work correctly as BGP Signalled with an RR on ROSv7 seemed very very wrong to me. And this has been a problem since 2020 when it came out.

@DaryllSwer Yeah I can agree, if you are in the position to migrate or have a greenfield opportunity then getting something like OCNOS on an Edgecore/Ufispace makes sense.

I'm fairly happy to see MikroTik has appeared to have fixed BGP signalled VPLS with route reflectors running ROSv7 it seems to have been implemented in v7.19.3, though my lab is running the latest test build on v7.20beta6 #MikroTik

@DaryllSwer That's not really the point of the post, there is a common problem of networks still stuck on v6 to deploy L2 services using VPLS with MT because that's the hand they are dealt. It is a good thing that they can actually go over to v7 now and look at EVPN as it matures on ROS.

@BergNetwork How do you build scalable carrier networks with MikroTik VPLS? It has BUM ingress replication problem on every participating PE. I don't understand why anyone cares about VPLS when we have EVPN with control plane learning, PIM/IGMP/MLD snooping and SMET.

What's new in 7.20beta5 (2025-Jul-03 17:21): *) bgp - support for Advertising IPv4 Network Layer Reachability Information (NLRI) with an IPv6 Next Hop; It seems to learn the routes, but not working 100% Probably misconfiguration on my end (or just MT still working on it)

I only have one bug logged with MikroTik and that is route reflectors not working for VPLS instances... Sooo... I wonder what they fixed in an upcoming build :D

@mikrotik_com @BergNetwork this might be something you'd be interested in, you've been a primary resource for me to learn RouterOS and I suspect it's not something you really would ever need to use lol, but it's interesting at least I think

I have made a public repo for anyone interested in trying this out. I also included a .tar.gz of the vector embeddings so all you need to get started is a Gemini API key for search and an xAI one for chat (easy to change to another by adjusting a couple lines) @mikrotik_com
Qui Vincit@vincit_amore

So you're telling me this custom RAG, with vector db and embeddings via Gemini api, and chat assistant via grok-3, tailored to a specific brand of network equipment I use that also includes an MCP to plug into Cursor puts me ahead of the curve? Probably only took me like 25 hours to put together using Cursor, hardly doesn't feel like it's anything too crazy tbh

@DaryllSwer Same problems I agree, but maybe a nice way to introduce v6 even though your current network does not support it. Maybe it makes transitioning from v4 to v6 a little bit easier since that 32 bit format is oh so easy. But that's just my take.

@BergNetwork That introduces state leading to STUN, TURN, ALG etc. So the networking behaviour of software applications between v4/v6 becomes one and the same, meaning there ain't no v6 benefits here. Same problem as v4-NAT: x.com/DaryllSwer/sta…

Yet another post about #CGNAT—because the #Internet still hasn’t learnt. It’s 2025, and we’re still patching #IPv4 with CGNAT instead of embracing #routing with #IPv6. Shout out to @FastNetMon for sponsoring this article! daryllswer.com/lets-talk-abou… #NetEng #NetworkEngineering

Is this heresy? I am using Masquerade rules to reach the IPv6 internet from my home internet access that does not provide me with IPv6 currently. I know NAT gets a lot of flack for sustaining IPv4 for so long, but seems like it can be used for other things as well :D
