@KimGulledge Another option is to assign a fractional value (like cost) to each item - even if they don't seem fractional. For example, a collection of buttons and you ask "if each button costs 1/10 of a dollar, how much would this collection cost?"

@KimGulledge Hi @KimGulledge! I love pattern blocks because you can say "what if the yellow hexagon is worth 1, what is the value of your collection?" (remove the squares and skinny rhombi). You can obviously choose different shapes to be worth 1, which will change the value as well.

@bholden86 @BerkeleyEverett @jody_guarino We explored this in my pre-service elementary classes today and found some amazing things! The students also extended it to Count by 9, starting at 3, and your pattern also works there!

Help please. Counting by 9s, I see if I start at 4 and count 4 hops, I get to 4 tens or 40. If I start at 13, and hop 13 hops, I get to 13 tens or 130. Same with 22 and 22 hops- 22 tens or 220. Can you help me think about why? #choralcounting @BerkeleyEverett @jody_guarino
