@se1 Our First Aide and ambulance services are funded by ourselves. The Metropolitan Police have no obligation to attend and do so as a courtesy. This year we were expecting 10 Special Constables with no history of police support they can hardly be considered a requirement.

Aside from considerations of taste/etiquette, it is possible that practical considerations are at play here too, as the queues for the Queen’s lying-in-state are likely to put pressure on police and public services etc along the SE1 riverside.

Bermondsey Street Festival - due to take place on Saturday 17 September - will no longer be held as Southwark Council has declined to licence the event.

While we would wish to continue with Bermondsey Street Festival in this challenging time as it is an important part of our Community, the Council take a different view and we are unable to proceed.
