@Bernstein this wouldn't vex you quite so much if you read the book

The main problem with the Dune movies is Villeneuve is clearly a way better fit for the kinky/fashy/Mark Romanek Harkonnen stuff than the po-faced desert mysticism stuff and as a result the former parts reveal how boring and dutiful the latter are by contrast

Hey, want to go to a reading tonight? Yeah, it’s fiction written by someone who hasn’t figured out how to be cogent at 280 characters or less, and seems to lack object permanence.

@magdajtaylor I've never read it. However I am considering writing a dating manual for young men.

Once I tried to write an essay diagnosing an entire generation of people based on the quirky aesthetics of a woman I dated. But I couldn't come up with a pithy coinage like "dinergoth." Later I discovered she was just a rockabilly, and those have been around since the 50s.

It's kind of funny that at the same time as the President , in wartime, will talk to literally any reporter at any time of the day or night, about whatever, Vanity Fair decided to run an AI-generated feature because the head of a company wouldn't give them an interview

The reason it's fun to read about infidelity is that it's all about lying — which writers and shrinks know is the truth. The reason it's mind-numbing to read about polyamory is that it's all about honesty — which writers and shrinks know is a lie.

@Bernstein Big and obvious problems here, but also he's I think he's on to something. There's a post-Hot Topic aesthetic out there that is recognizable, non-local and not amenable to my understanding of previously existing subcultures.
