He walked out in the gray light and stood and he saw for a brief moment the absolute truth of the world. The cold relentless circling of the intestate earth. Darkness implacable. Cormac McCarthy. The Road. A relentless journey I spent with my students each year.

RIP Jenni Murray. A wonderful woman. Woman’s Hour was always brilliant with her at the helm. I can hear her lovely voice now. apple.news/A4JIJsmkzTka-D…

“I did a poem called Big Hugs,” says McGough, referring to a piece that works its way through the people and places he might like to cuddle before he succumbs to the Grim Reaper’s scythe. northernsoul.me.uk/lets-not-die-a… @Romance_eros

Taras Shevchenko. Kateryna. An oil painting created by Shevchenko in 1842 to illustrate his own poem that describes the tragic fate of a Ukrainian girl seduced and abandoned by a Russian soldier. An allegory of Ukraine's subjugation by Russian imperial power at that time.

@Bertrom I would never have thought that these 'images from the past', although timeless, would capture the current zeitgeist so perfectly once again. But here we are again. Thank you!

@Ebruyldrm_88 I have wonderful memories of teaching Vertigo, and on one occasion seeing it accompanied by a live orchestra conducted by maestro Anthony Gabriele at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.

Dissolving in space, My heart grows light like the bare branches, And thoughts which through long months Have lain like lead upon my breast, Heavy, slow-ripening thoughts, Grow light and sere, And fall at last, so empty and so beautiful. Edwin Muir.

‘The Way’ gates are designed by artist blacksmith Joshua De Lisle and were added to Richmond Park in 2012 to mark the tercentenary of St Paul’s Cathedral. They are a short walk from Pembroke Lodge and located on the edge of Sidmouth Woods. A fabulous walk.

Siân Davey. The Garden. “As the garden evolved, it became an expression of joy, interconnectedness, yearning, and defiance. It became a metaphor for the human in us that we are not separate from nature nor from one another — we are all interconnected just by being human.”

thought this was incredible, but also unbearably sad, found myself in tears by the end, just sitting with it all. people stuck in loops, chasing hollow wins that barely matter, even to them. it’s inertia, effort without outcome, lives with nowhere to go. this is all there is.
