The essence of Liverpool to me. This fabulous city welcomed me, and even though I was on the back foot, I fought hard and made a successful career in theatre, photography and community arts. There are opportunities there if you grasp them. Liverpool really is a city of dreams.

David Bradley. Iconic, funny and such a lovely young lad, who appeared in one of the most memorable films of 1969.

Rossett is a village, community and electoral ward in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. Our friend lives in a caravan on a site beside the Chester canal. A strange,timeless place.

We watched this film at school. It was made when I was 9 yrs old. I remember being furious and totally distressed when Kes was killed. The injustice of it never left me. Brilliant film, superbly acted.

@Bertrom It simulated North excellently for poor kids in the 70's. But we we made our own entertainment without bothering other people, and enjoyed life, as grim as it was.

Ken Loach: It was basically a story about one boy and his bird but with plenty to say about working-class culture and aspirations of that time. We'd all seen the social realism films of the late 50s and early 60s and we felt that there must be another way forward from there. 1/

@Bertrom I used to walk in all them fields in Hoyland and Athersley and the lad in the film who gets the cane for no reason was the son of my teacher.

@Bertrom Went to a viewing of Kes on the big screen and Dai Bradley was doing. Q&A afterwards. It was great watching the film again in such a setting and Dai was lovely. I even got to ask a question. A great experience.
