NEW VIDEO The UK and Ireland have centuries of cryptid history, but today only a couple are well known. I uncovered dozens of obscure reports of strange cryptids on the isles, from graveyard dwelling mammals, to blue horses, to mysterious bloodsucking serpents. Link below!

@BestCryptids @PeterBrannen1 Lol I love the idea of horse escapees! "We are making the break tonight boys- be ready. When the pilgrims fall asleep, we head for The West. Who is with me??" "NEEEEIIIIGGHHH" "... I am going to take that as a yes"

@PeterBrannen1 We also had humpless camelids! Rideable sized ones and little ones, like the guanacos and vicuñas of south america. When our native elders say "we had horses pre-spanish contact" they are Orally-Remembering the camelids- most likely.

Exciting news: the historic Fossil Cabin has been moved to its new home at the Medicine Bow Museum! Built in 1932, it's the only surviving building constructed out of dinosaur bones.

A VERY good example of the "Cross-Bearing Dolphin" effect I just found on Flickr.

Europe's second famous lake monster is the Stoorsjoodjuret of Sweden's Lake Storsjon. Like the Loch Ness Monster, it has an entire organization set up to find it and even some alleged photos and videos

It's probably just a random bug, but... I'm genuinely scared of what kind of creature it could be, but I know it's not human, and yet that uncanny valley feeling hits me.

Before the last apocalypse, there was Prosaevosaurus priala: the First Dragon. Known from dozens of fossils found while building underground cities, it represents the humble origin of the Flying Dragons. (1)

Three separate people have reported a strange "variant" of the Loch Ness Monster. It is capable of going on land, and has the shape of a camel with a long neck and shaggy fur. It was famously seen by Lieutenant McP Fordyce, though a William MacGruber and his sister also saw it

@CLilletias It would be very difficult to verify everything in the book, especially as some eyewitnesses may be tough to find. But there are aspects I've verified, like people mentioned and especially the prominent bigfoot sighting. I've talked with the author who was a nice guy too.

@BestCryptids I bought this book, and to be honest, I was drawn to its subject matter. It features many little-known cryptic animals, but I really doubt how reliable it is.

Trying to think of a direction for the Kongomato illustration. I think something more relaxed like it floating on the water would be best.*

I talk a lot about the father of cryptozoology, but I'd like to shoutout the mother of cryptozoology too. Monique Watteau was married to Bernard Heuvelmans and, despite their divorce, she collaborated with him and drew a lot of fantastic artwork of cryptids for him

This man-made wolf speaks volumes about how humans have projected their own ideas of monstrosity onto the wolf for centuries for their own ends. They have driven it to extinction in many parts of the world and are preventing its re-wilding or return by continuing to generate fear and perpetuate the fairy tale of the big bad wolf

“Untouchable” My own interpretations of the Bathysphere Fish cryptids sighted by William Beebe in the 1930’s during the first bathysphere dives. All 5 species were never seen again and it’s unknown if they’re still around or even existed.
