A Catholic company launched a series of products named Family Mass Prep, with a subscription service to an app, & at first I just thought “oh, simple mistake, they must not know we’ve been doing a show with that name for 3 years on Hallow” Then I saw in my DM’s, they’re actually listeners. Which means they stole the name & idea.

The year is 2045. You go to a Novus Ordo Mass with your family. There is no hustle and bustle in the lobby outside the sanctuary. Everyone is quietly filing in. There is reverence in the air. Instead of sharing loudly about their recent medical procedures, the old folks quietly prepare their souls for the Holy Sacrifice. Even the children sense something is different, and their squeals and cries diminish. The priest processes in with an army of altar boys behind him. There is determination in their faces. This means something to them. Traditional chant swells from the choir loft, and incense fills the room. The liturgy begins. The priest is facing the altar, as usual, and intones the opening prayers in familiar Latin. During the homily, the priest reminds his people to pray for Pope Benedict XVII and his failing health. For a moment, you remember his election 20 years ago. A small smile crosses your lips as you think about all he's done for the Church in the past two decades. If someone had told you back then that Cardinal Dolan would be considered one of the greatest Popes in history by the end of his life, you would have laughed in their face. Now, you are content to offer up a prayer for his soul in gratitude for everything the Lord accomplished through him. Your reminiscing is interrupted as your child climbs onto your lap to listen to the rest of father's homily.

I gave a talk on Sunday evening at my old parish, where I was the youth minister over a decade ago. The talk went well. I was happy with it. Nothing earth shattering or mind blowing. A normal talk on the sacraments. Just now, as I was filling up my van at the gas station, one of the core team members at OLQH came up to me, introduced himself, and thanked me for the talk. “You were my youth minister, ya know, for LifeTeen.” “Was I?” (I couldn’t remember him. Part of why I stepped down from the role in 2016 was because I was overworked and didn’t know all the teens well) “You were. And I stuck around in the church because of you and Josh and Mak.” (his small group leaders) I smiled & thanked him for the kind words. “No really. You think it doesn’t make a difference. But it does. I’m grateful you were there. And I’m helping out at OLQH today so I can maybe do that for just one kid now.”

@JentoInfinity Yeah I know it’s so hard to keep up with everything when you work full time and who the heck wants to use PTO to clean the house. And I end up needing to spend my weekends off to run errands. I need an assistant LOL
