Bexley Historical Society

This is the last post from Bexley Historical Society as I am now closing the account.

After last nights AGM where no volunteers came forward to join the committee the Bexley Historical Society folded with immediate effect. The Society ran for over 70 years and held over 800 meetings with Sally Kirkpatrick as Chairman for 24 years and over 200 of these meetings.

After the AGM Brian Biggs will deliver the final talk called Shipwrecked en voyage to the Falklands. Free tea, coffee and cakes for all. With 3 of the 4 committee members stepping down and no volunteers willing to step in the B.H.S. will be wound up at the A.G.M.

The next and probably final meeting of the Bexley Historical Society and AGM will be on Tuesday 18th Feb. The meeting takes place at the United Reformed Church Hall Hurst road, opposite the war memorial in Bexley. Entry is free and doors open at 7:30pm. With the AGM starting 8pm.

With 3 of the current 4 committee members stepping down at the AGM on the 18th of February and nobody willing to take on any of the roles vacated the Bexley Historical Society will fold after the meeting.

The talk will be by John Halligan about The mistress's of King Charles 2nd. This was requested when he gave his previous talk. Doors open at 7:30 with the talk starting at 8pm. £5 on the door unless you have 5 previous visits when entry is free.

Happy new year to members of the Bexley Historical Society. Our next and probably penultimate meeting of the society will be on Tuesday 21st January at the United Reformed Church Hall Bexley at the corner of Hurst Road opposite the war memorial.

The December meeting of the Bexley Historical Society is tomorow, 17th Dec at the United Reform Church Hall oposite the war memorial corner of Hurst Road Bexley. Steve Hookins is giving the talk about a variety of things. Doors open at 7:30, cost is £5 on the door

The next meeting of the Bexley Historical Society is on Tuesday 16th of July at the United Reformed Church hall opposite the War Memorial in Bexley. Doors open 7:30 with the talk starting at 8pm. Ian Bevan will deliver a talk called Victorian leisure and pleasure. £5 on the door.

The next talk at the Bexley Historical Society will be on Tuesday 21st of May by Guy Bartlett about Concorde. We meet at the U.R.C. Hall on the corner of Hurst Road Bexley by the war memorial. Doors open at 7:30.pm entry is £5 on the door, Talk starts approx 8pm

The next meeting of the Bexley Historical Society will be on Tues. 19/03/24. We meet at the United Reformed Church Hurst Road Bexley opposite the war memorial. The talk will be delivered by Stuart Robinson on Dickens London. Doors open 7:30 for 8pm. start,cost is £5 on the door.

The next meeting will take place on Tuesday the 19th of March in the United Reformed Church Hall in Hurst Road Bexley. Doors open from 7:30 with free tea and coffee for all. Cost is £5 per person

Sally has been the chair person since 2014 and at the next AGM will be stepping down after 20 years. Steve and David will also be stepping down from their roles on the committee leaving only the Treasurer. We have enough funding to see us through to February 2025 tbc

At the AGM on Tuesday the 20th of August regrettably the committee announced that with dwindling membership numbers (80+ pre covid to 22ish 2023) that this year 2024-25 will be the last year for the B.H.S. unless new committee members carry on the Society. TBC

We have speakers booked until the end of the year with the wonderful Steve Hookins giving his last ever talk at our December meeting for free. At the AGM in February 2025 if no new committee is ready to step in and run the BHS it will cease to exist after 75 years.

Unfortunately tomorrow’s scheduled speaker is ill and can’t do the talk. Steve Hookins is replacing him and will be doing a talk explaining the events in Billy Joels song “We Didn't Start The Fire. Doors open 7:30pm and our AGM will start at 7:45. Free tea and coffee for all.

@wellingunited If the rumours are true and it's Stringer taking over then I won't be coming anymore; I remember that toxic play off semi against Chelmsford a few years' back and Stringer's sons threatening and abusing Wings fans and trying to fight them. No thanks.
