The Hospital Passport, often described as a life saver by colleagues in the Emergency Department & Hospital Wards. If you see it, read it. Always ask a patient with LD if they have one. If not, you can provide one which is in your LD Resource Folder, found in all clinical areas

⭐ Carers Support Packs Available ⭐ Unpaid carers supporting a patient during their hospital stay can access a Carers Support Pack, which includes: 🚙 Free parking
💖 Open visiting (with overnight stay where appropriate)
🥘☕️Hot meals and drinks Carers packs are located on the Patient Experience trolleys on the wards.

We would like to welcome Maame who is a Learning Disability newly qualified nurse shadowing the LD Team for the week. 🎉 Maame is passionate in learning new skills in the acute setting. She will be working at KGH ED providing care to both LD and mainstream patients.

We have promoted the Learning Disability and Autism Hospital passports together with our Admiral Nursing Dementia Service who also promoted their ‘This is Me’ targeting patients with these vulnerabilities and educated their families/carers the benefit of having these.

We would like to welcome Peggy, a newly qualified Learning Disability Nurse who is working at Bluebell B! 🎉 Peggy is one of the Learning Disability Nurses who chose to start her career in BHRUT, and was recruited as part of the LD career map.

The winners of the Learning Disability Information Board competition are King George Hospital-Erica Ward & Queen’s Hospital- Bluebell A. Our LD Working Group member David was present to award the areas who won the competition and meet the staff! 🎉👏 amazing team work!

In conclusion of LD Week 2025, this reasonable adjustment manages sensory overload, reduces anxiety, and improves focus. A quiet space provides refuge from an overwhelming environment, allowing them to regulate emotions and engage effectively.

Today we had our LD Working Group Potluck Tea Party event. A huge thank you to our LD champions, service-users, families and carers who continue to make improvements at our hospitals. 🙌🎉

People with learning disabilities may struggle to understand what you mean when they’re in hospital. Today’s reasonable adjustment is about using simple language and avoiding medical jargon when communicating with our service-users.

Our reasonable adjustment today is around allowing families and carers to support our service-users. Our families and carers know the person best, and can support the staff in providing person centred care in our hospitals.

We have set up a stall at Queen’s Hospital today as part of Learning Disability Week 2025 to promote Hospital passports for people with a learning disability as well as easy read resources that may support them in their journey in our hospitals.

2nd day for LD week 2025 and our reasonable adjustment of the day is offering first or last appointment of the day. This adjustment allows for a less overwhelming experience, improving their ability to engage with the appointment and receive appropriate care.

Today we had our “Do you see me?”: LD transition conference at KGH Education Centre. It was a brilliant session delivered by our internal and external speakers who are all passionate on the work that they do in supporting Transition of young people into adult services. Amazing!⭐️

People who have Down syndrome usually have a learning disability. This is different in each person. 1 in every 800 babies will be born with Down syndrome. Down syndrome occurs naturally – there is no known cause. #WorldDownSyndromeDay #ImproveOurSystems #LOTSOFSOCKS
