Find true power in prayer to Christ today.

As the US/Iran war drags on, many debate a path victory. John uses this exact language of fighting a war, “defeating, battle, victory, winning,”to describe how we too, are in a spiritual war. ONLY with Christ, can His love and teachings defeat the war and bring us home to heaven.

1 John 5:4-5 NLT For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

But how do you know who’s a real christian? John reveals real ones obey God’s teachings and don’t find it a burden. How many times have you heard “if I weren’t a christian, I’d…” Therefore, you can discern who is a real one if they obey God’s word or don’t despise correction.

Back to the book of 1 John after sharing my church recap. John has been focusing on how the biblical definition of “love” differs from pop culture. John teaches love is based on God’s rules, not just accepting everyone’s sins. He teaches to prioritize loving christians.

1 John 5:2-3 NLT We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments. Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome.

My wife has been wanting a LA Dodgers jersey and so I thought the sermon was so timely! We do represent Christ all the time, so be righteous in your cussing, lewdness, road rage, <insert your weakness>. Pray for strength to be a “great player” when wearing the “Jesus Jersey.”

Taking a break from the book of 1 John to share part of the church sermon today. Our pastor was talking about Paul’s letter to the church in Corinth. That each Christian represents God so we must live righteously at all times. He called this mindset, wearing the “Jesus Jersey.”

2 Corinthians 5:20 ESV Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

Donations in the US, average 1-3% of household income. John teaches us to love and prioritize Christian needs. It’s fine to donate to other causes, but as John teaches, Christians with the love of God, prioritize loving other Christians first. Prioritize christian donations.

Another test if believers have true love, biblically defined “love,” is if they love other believers. John has emphasized this point over and over in this chapter. True believers should have love for other believers, especially as Christians were persecuted and in need of help.

1 John 4:20-21 NLT If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers.

The fear that John talks about is related to that final day. John says God’s love should remove all fear when we meet God. What will you say on judgement day?

“I can only imagine” by Mercy Me, topped the 2003 billboard Christian List at #1. It asked if christians would stand or fall or sing when they saw God in heaven on judgement day.

1 John 4:18 NLT Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.

People often wonder what does this passage even mean, to “live in God’s love?” It means we do the right thing, even when it’s tough because we know God protects us and is pleased with us when we live righteously. Want God’s protection and love? Do the right things in life.

With all these definitions of biblical “love,” contrasting with how the world defines love, John tells the church that God expresses this definition of righteous/fatherly love to all believers. And in turn, believers can trust, rest and live in this blessing of love from God.

1 John 4:16 NLT We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.
