let me tell you what it is like to be born in a community like Owode Yewa: a thread 🧵

we might not be able to change where we started from, ut we can detinitely change what happens next, anc hat's what @writetorise1 is trying to do.

& honestly, a big part of this is for the younger version of me, and for people who are still in that place, just trying to figure things out on their own.

for me, this isn't just about writing or just another initiative, it's really about giving people that access I feel is missing, it's about helping someone somewhere realise that where they come from doesn't have to limit them.

& that's really what led me to start @writetorise1, because I know what it feels like to have something in you, like ideas, thoughts, potential, but no real platform to express it or grow it.

for someone like me and others like me who are from hat community, you are lett figure things out on your wn. no roadmap, no guidance; just trial and error

bridging the gap between where you are and where you could be is what changes everything

the difference between people isn't always intelligence or talent; it's access. access to the right information, access to opportunities, access to people who can guide you.

& school is not a scam, it's just that you are going through it without the right support, without the right information, without anyone actually showing you how to make it work for you.

schools are there, obviously, but there are really no guidance or exposure. it you want more, it still woul feel like you are trying without direction, and atter while you start hearing things like school is a scam and honestly, I get why people say that, I really do.

you may know you want more, but what you will not know is what more looks or feels like because there's no close blueprint.

you grow up in a system that's designed tor you to complacent. you don't really think too far ahead because nobody around you is even doing that either. if you need role models, you must look outside of your environment.

you have dreams, but they feel distant, almost unrealistic. your mind is not exposed to the possibilities of what you can be, so even your dreams are limited.

you don't really grow up around opportunities; it's more like limitations>opportunities. you grow up in a place where you just manage, adjust and survive. you grow up surrounded by people doing their best, but more is not always visible.
