The 2009 Lumpkin County, Georgia Dash Cam Bigfoot Sighting: Real Encounter or Quick Hoax? Late on the night of May 16, 2009, a Lumpkin County Sheriff’s deputy was driving a curvy rural road in the Frogtown area near the Chattahoochee National Forest. Riding along was Mary Scott, a civilian in the Citizens Law Enforcement Academy. Traveling around 55 mph, they suddenly saw a large, dark, bipedal figure burst from the right and cross directly in front of their patrol car. The deputy slammed the brakes. The dash cam captures raw shock: “What the crap? What was that? Did you see that?” “Yes.” “Holy crap. What the heck was that?” “That was on 2 feet, wasn’t it?” “Yeah.” “Oh my goodness.” They stopped and searched. Scott reported seeing the figure moving back and forth off the road as the deputy scanned with his light. It covered serious ground in just 1.4–2 seconds with long, fluid strides. The grainy footage shows a tall upright walker crossing past a guardrail. Enhancements highlight swinging arms and a gait many say doesn’t match a costume or bear. The sheriff later called it a hoax — two college kids in a gorilla suit. But no photos, no public confessions, and the remote late-night location doesn’t scream “prank.” After weighing the claims, I’m left with the video and those genuine reactions. They saw something big on two feet — clearly furry, not just a runner. They were alarmed enough to investigate. Those authentic sounds of surprise from a deputy and passenger who weren’t hunting Bigfoot that night? That’s what convinces me this was a genuine Bigfoot sighting. North Georgia has a rich history of reports. This one stands out thanks to the dash cam and two witnesses. Fleeting? Yes. Classic? Absolutely. Keep your eyes on those back roads — you never know what might cross your path. 👣 So where do you land on this one? Hoax, misidentified bear, or real Bigfoot in the headlights?
