In economic terms, the uptake of solar power installations for household use is being hypothesized as a threat to the development of the grid electricity market in Nigeria, and I understand the mechanism behind this explanation. However, on a less serious note, there is another mechanism discussed informally: the decline of grid electricity due to the absence of pressure from consumers who now enjoy the cushion of solar power. Someone told me that one of the notable power supply activists in my neighbourhood has become less active in challenging the Disco since installing solar.
