The Bighorn National Forest received a report of a rock slide on the Tongue River Canyon Trail 002 about a ½ mile west of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Trailhead.  Crews are planning to be onsite tomorrow to assess the situation and attempt repairs. Please avoid the area.

To avoid damage, always stay on the designated routes, and do not attempt to drive around muddy spots or snowdrifts. Please respect seasonal road and trail closures, even if you think the route looks suitable. Some seasonal closures are to protect wildlife.

Smoke will be visible in the Doyle Creek area today (Dec. 9, 2025) off of Hazelton Road. Crews plan to burn piles from fuels thinning projects around infrastructure (such as lodges, homes, and cabins) for better protection from potential wildland fire.

Smoke will be visible along Highway 14 and Red Grade Road (Big Goose Road 26) today, December 2, 2025. Crews are burning piles in the Burgess Junction, Antelope Butte, and Babione Creek areas. The piles are from fuels thinning projects around infrastructure.

Bighorn National Forest staff are planning to temporarily close Cutler Nordic Ski trails off Highway 14 for a blasting project on November 25, 2025. Please avoid the area until operations are complete. The work is being done to improve public access and grooming conditions.

Bighorn National Forest fire crews plan to burn piles in the Antelope Butte Ski Area today, November 24, 2025. Smoke may be visible from Highway 14. The piles are made of slash that was stacked after a fuels thinning project.

Crazy Woman Canyon, Forest System Road 33, has reopened. It was closed this season due to a bridge replacement project. Travelers can now visit the scenic Crazy Woman Canyon but with caution. The road is still narrow and best done at low speeds.

August 22, 2025 A small crew of firefighters is working on the French Creek Fire today. Rain has helped efforts. The fire is burning in a rugged area and fuels are in between the rocks, adding to the challenge of suppression. The fire is now 50% contained and a 1/4 acre.

Safety Alert- A section of Freezeout Forest System Road (FSR) 168 is closed for approximately a mile at the junction with Dayton Gulch/Burgess FSR 15 through Friday, July 11, 2025. We have posted the closure on the ground and apologize for the inconvenience.

Forest Service offices will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2025, in observance of the federal holiday.

The Powder River Ranger District Office in Buffalo, WY will be closed this afternoon. Regular business hours will resume Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
