BikeID - Bicycle Identification Number

A bike can last years, change owners, and travel thousands of kilometers. But its identity rarely stays with it. Ownership, history, and verification often get lost over time. BikeID exists to change that giving bikes a structured identity that follows them throughout their lifecycle. Because in a growing industry, clarity and trust should not be optional.

Cycling has a blind spot. We measure performance. We track progress. But we still don’t protect identity. Should bikes remain anonymous… or is it time for verifiable identity recorded on a blockchain? It’s a question we’re actively exploring at BikeID

In 2025, thieves stole 11 race bikes worth €145,000 from a pro team at the Tour de France. Another race saw 18 bikes worth €250,000 taken overnight. Even the highest level of cycling isn’t immune to bike theft. Imagine if every bike carried a verifiable identity making it harder to hide, sell, or move stolen bikes. That’s the kind of real-world problem we’re built to address.

BikeID, the @Cardano_CF, and Ecobike have submitted a joint proposal to build a digital micromobility data platform for the cycling industry — connecting bike identity, lifecycle data, and infrastructure for the next era of cycling. ⚠️ MASSIVE NEWS : BIKE IDENTITY MEETS BLOCKCHAIN. The global bicycle market is valued at over $120 billion, with tens of millions of bikes produced every year. Yet most bikes still leave the factory with very little structured identity attached to them. Ownership changes, service history, and lifecycle data often become fragmented or lost over time. Our project, BikeID, addresses this gap by giving bikes a structured identity from production onward with critical records anchored on blockchain infrastructure. At this scale, even small improvements in traceability and verification can significantly strengthen transparency and trust across the cycling industry. Bikes move on roads. Bike data moves on-chain.

Fair play to Ineos Grenadiers. Went through a really tough period after Grand Tour dominance. Reached a low in 2024 with just 14 wins, turned things around last year, and they're even better in 2026. Not easy to reinvent yourself as a team, particularly in the Pogi era, but they seem to be doing it well.

The cycling industry faces a quiet but real challenge: grey imports. Bikes entering markets without clear documentation or traceability can disrupt pricing and create pressure for authorized retailers and distributors. Structured bike identity can help bring more transparency across the supply chain from manufacturer to retailer to rider. We, BIKEID, explores how consistent bike identity standards can support traceability and strengthen trust across the cycling ecosystem.

BREAKING NEWS 🚨 Did you know that around 1.3 million bicycles are stolen every year across the EU (European Cyclists Federation, ECF) ? 🤯 That’s not just a security issue, it’s an identity problem. Most bikes move through their lifecycle without a structured, verifiable record. This is where we (BikeID) comes in: building the identity layer that helps bikes carry trusted records over time, making theft harder to hide and ownership easier to prove.

Cities are investing heavily in cycling infrastructure. But infrastructure isn’t only bike lanes. It’s also data. Knowing how bikes move, how they’re maintained, and how they interact with urban mobility systems. Structured identity systems like what we aim to do is needed.
