I spoke with the President of the European Commission, @vonderleyen. First and foremost, we discussed the unblocking of a €90 billion support package. These funds will strengthen not only Ukraine but all of Europe, and it is important that we begin receiving them soon. All necessary steps on Ukraine’s side have been taken.
We also addressed other European issues. It is entirely fair to open negotiation clusters on our EU membership – technically, Ukraine is already fully prepared. It is equally fair to continue maintaining sanctions pressure on Russia – Europe’s determination in adopting new sanctions steps is crucial, given the weakening of some existing restrictions. We agreed to examine these matters in detail and coordinate the next steps during our meeting.

During talks between U.S. and Iranian delegations in Pakistan, the topic of Ukraine unexpectedly came up. While discussing U.S. guarantees in the event that Iran halts uranium enrichment and abandons the development of nuclear weapons, the Iranian side asked how the United States is fulfilling the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, in which it pledged to respect and protect Ukraine’s sovereignty. The U.S. delegation left the question unanswered.
