"Testing on animals is unethical, which is why we're giving gramps the I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream Treatment"

A biotech company is keeping recently deceased human brains active on a high-tech life-support system. The reasons? The company says they want to pave the way for an animal-free era of neurological drug testing. Spun out of Yale University research, biotechnology startup Bexorg is challenging traditional drug testing boundaries by placing donated human brains on an artificial life-support system called BrainEx. Shortly after a donor's death, the company connects the bodiless organ to pumps that circulate an oxygen-rich, nutrient-dense blood substitute to restore cellular and metabolic activity. To address the immediate ethical concerns surrounding consciousness, Bexorg keeps these brains under deep anesthesia using propofol, ensuring there is no organized neural firing or awareness. The organs remain active for just 24 hours—providing researchers with a critical window to test drugs for diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's on actual human tissue—before being dissected for detailed analysis. This whole-organ technology is part of a broader, high-stakes shift toward replacing flawed animal models, which contribute to a staggering failure rate in central nervous system drug trials. Other forward-looking companies are pursuing alternative biological avenues; Tessara Therapeutics is growing thousands of miniature, human stem-cell-derived 'mini-brains,' while Cortical Labs has engineered a platform that embeds living neurons onto silicon chips. Even more radically, startups like R3 Bio are exploring genetically engineered, brainless human bodies to serve as whole-body medical models. Together, these groundbreaking platforms could significantly accelerate the development of life-saving therapeutics while moving medicine beyond the ethical and biological limitations of animal testing. source: Cross, R. (2025). Exclusive: Rebooting dead human brains, a biotech startup seeks to reinvent early drug testing work. Endpoints News.

Basically every Homeric film/art could just copy what Total War: Troy did from here on out and do fine. They nailed basically everything; no need for further revision. Too bad the game itself sucked

It would be the easiest thing in the world for the British and French governments to disrupt the people-smuggling networks and prevent anybody from crossing the Channel. They don’t because they don’t want to. It’s actually desirable for the boats to keep coming.

"I don't give a good damn about the browning of the classics," said the Hebrew as he opined on a mythological legacy that has nothing to do with him, and which his people have been hostile to for over two thousand years.
Ben Shapiro@benshapiro

IMHO, a lot of conservatives are missing the Biblical forest for the woke trees in Nolan's Odyssey. Yes, the casting of Elliot Page is silly and egregious. But here's the thing: Nolan's "The Odyssey" is an apologia for Christian morality poured into a Greek vase. The entire movie is rooted in what Nolan terms "Zeus' law." That law is: "Treat others as you would want to be treated, because anyone might be a god." Now, clearly, there's nothing like that in Greek mythology. It's not implicit in Homer. It's a direct rip from Biblical morality, substituting "because anyone might be a god" for "because man was made in the image of God." Nolan then takes this rule and uses it as his moral glue: the idea is that Odysseus, in utilizing the Trojan Horse, violated Zeus' law and led to full-scale slaughter. That sin has led to the unleashing of broader globalized sin (the "sea peoples" who don't respect Zeus' law and are invading surrounding areas). This is a highly Biblical message: that sin is infectious, and that sin also affects the world at large, not just the sinner. Odysseus has sinned, and he must atone for that sin through self-imposed exile. He must also sacrifice his own aspirations to restore the possibility of a moral universe: because he has unleashed catastrophic violence and violation of Zeus' law -- manifest in the suitors' cynical use of Zeus' law to eat Penelope out of house and home -- he must violate Zeus' law one last time and then accept the penalty, which is exile. This is a not only a movie that will make millions of people go read classical literature again. It also reinforces the idea that violation of the Golden Rule has disastrous consequences. I dunno. I'd consider that, on balance, a large-scale win for civilizational values, when weighed against the woke casting of Elliot Page or the dumbass discussion over whether Lupita Nyongo is good-looking enough (she is, and for the record Diane Kruger is German, not Greek).

Reminder that the Greeks raped and enslaved all of Judea and reformed their religion into another mere appendage of Platonism. The Jews in history are nothing, never more than mere footnotes. It is the Homeric man who made, lived and guides all history.

“My discrimination isn’t actually discrimination.” Yes it is. You just can’t call it that because your entire ideology is centered around moralizing about how bad something is even while you actively do it. Who gets to decide what’s a “harmful belief”? Accordingly to you, apparently you do. But why should anyone care what you think about anything? What makes your definition objective, useful, or desirable in any way?
Dr. Mia Brett@QueenMab87

My history cohort had a very conservative member doing military history & foreign policy. He made things hell for us. Contrarian, dismissive, actively sexist. It’s not discrimination to face consequences for harmful beliefs & behavior
