Science Week was celebrated at Kinross High School last week with assemblies, external speakers, a TSG competition and a photography competition

S1 Science pupils have been investigating the effect of air resistance and how it affects their times for 50m sprints as part the Forces unit. They are gaining inspiration for their upcoming Science Fair projects, ensuring they can plan, carry out, and evaluate their own ideas.

Advanced Higher Biology took a trip to RZSS Education Centre today with 2 phenomenal lectures on Reproduction and Animal Behaviour. 🐒🐅🦥 We tracked animal behaviours - choosing our own favourites to plan and study . This gave hands on experience of different research methods.

Spooky Season is in full swing in Biology today as Advanced Higher took part in the annual Problem Solving Pumpkin Pick in their costumes 🎃 Working in teams they collaborated to hunt, retrieve and solve some tricky past paper questions from around the faculty, hoping to win.

Ex-pupil and @StAndrewsChem student, Lauryn has been working with the science faculty to develop novel chemistry experiments through her Communication in Science University module. In the photo she is showing the science club one of the experiments she has developed.

Chemistry students recently attended a presentation by local Kinross company, Mhor Energy, to hear about their plans for innovative redox flow batteries.

Our S1s were building sail boats today with @TheEDTUK ; trying various designs to see which would go furthest.

Advanced Higher Biology attended a session at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh to take on the role of Flu Fighters. Using Avian flu as an example, they covered the structure and function of viruses, then used this to identify which hens had tested positive for Avian flu. 🐓🦠🧬

Higher biologists have been using their learning to demonstrate the process of DNA Replication that occurs within cells, using our interactive Replication Station. 🧬🔬

Our S1s did a wonderful job of presenting their research findings at our Science Fair on Tuesday. Thanks to all the judges and to parents for coming along and letting our S1s share their learning with you.

Spring has sprung in S3 Biology. Students are continuing their studies of Growing Plants by investigating the reproductive structures of Daffodils, taking their learning beyond textbook diagrams.
