To all the “unemployment is near record low” folks, just know they’re counting gig employment (I.e DoorDash, Uber, etc.) in their figures. Roughly 27 million people are underemployed. If you measure real wages against cost of living, 87 million people are functionally unemployed.

I ran for state senate in New Mexico in 2008. I told the Bernalillo County Dems that water crisis in Albuquerque was *imminent*. The natural aquifer that runs from ABQ to Santa Fe was already 1/3 mined in 2008. Meaning *not coming back*. A city like ABQ does not have the water for 3% annual economic growth. It is not sustainable and never was. BC Dems told me they would not support me if I ran on this platform
I say that only to identify that Dems have never cared about sustainability. It’s always been politics first, not reality. So now data centers are sucking the actual life out of not just ecosystems and soon entire cities and Dems will do nothing about it

🚨BREAKING: There is NO water in The Rio Grande?! I’m standing here in New Mexico and the river is completely DRY. Nearby AI data centers are consuming massive amounts of water to keep their systems cool. Meta’s Los Lunas facility alone has reportedly been tied to roughly 75 million gallons of water usage per year connected to Rio Grande resources and it’s only ONE of many projects expanding across the state. People can argue over the exact numbers, but one thing is undeniable… these facilities require enormous amounts of water and there are more data centers across the country being built as we speak. This is starting to look like an environmental disaster in plain sight. We need to put pressure on local representatives and the President to examine this environmental crisis before it’s too late.

The NYPD has just coined the term "anti-tech violent extremist activity" in light of the mass opposition to AI and data centers, according to @DRBoguslaw. The New York Intelligence and Counterterrorism Bureau at the NYPD has written a report that includes: "The chaotic atmosphere that may result from emergent AI technology in the next five years may fuel large-scale protests that devolve into civil unrest and anti-tech violent extremist activity, especially in large urban areas such as New York City."
