@Metabolic_Mind @bschermd After being on diet for about 2 yrs I was told I had fatty liver disease and have never had problems with liver. I vaguely remembe4 seeing someone in the community saying font worry about fatty liver disease. Is this true?

Headlines say a ketogenic diet harms your liver. The science says otherwise. 👉 @bschermd breaks down the flaws of a new liver study and explains what the higher-quality evidence actually shows about keto and liver health.

Some women are still throwing away the yolk and eating egg white omelettes just to stay skinny. For years we were taught that eating fat would make us fat, so the yolk became the enemy. But the yolk is where almost all the nutrition lives. That’s where you’ll find choline, vitamins A, D, E and K, plus lutein and zeaxanthin. The white is mostly protein. Saving a few calories by throwing away the yolk also means throwing away most of the egg’s nutrients. We’ve become so focused on eating less that we’ve forgotten to ask whether we’re nourishing ourselves. I’d rather eat the whole egg than spend my life fearing it. Do you eat the whole egg, or just the whites?

If the body evolved to make and use saturated fat, why would that be harmful? When I stopped being afraid of saturated fat and started eating it again my health improved dramatically, and my skin has never looked better. Our bodies have evolved to… Make saturated fat. Store saturated fat. Burn saturated fat. Build cell membranes with saturated fat. Put saturated fat in breast milk. Convert excess carbohydrate into saturated fat. Those are all well-established biological facts. So why would evolution conserve all of those mechanisms if saturated fat were inherently toxic?

The first RCT of the ketogenic diet as a treatment for schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder is now published! Compared to diet as usual, keto participants were more likely to experience: ✅ Improved metabolic health (weight, HbA1c, and insulin resistance) ✅ Improved psychiatric symptoms ✅ Improved cognitive performance

Severe psychiatric illness plus disability plus low income is the population most underserved by every system that exists. Standard psychiatric care has often failed them by the time they find my nonprofit. The research on ketogenic metabolic therapy for psychiatric recovery is real and growing, but it will be a while before it is widely adopted by clinicians working with individuals relying on government funded insurance plans. In the meantime, the people who could most benefit are the ones least able to afford private programs, private coaching, private dietitians, or private clinical guidance. The question of where can a low-income or disability recipient due to psychiatric illness can go for support and education in KMT has an answer, because you will have sustained it through your nonprofit donation during our once a year matching campaign. every.org/brain-fog-reco…

In 1968, researchers ran the largest randomised trial ever done on saturated fat. Over 9,000 people in Minnesota state hospitals were split between animal fat and corn oil for years. The corn oil group’s cholesterol dropped hard. The full results never got published. The raw data sat on magnetic tapes in a basement for over forty years. A researcher named Christopher Ramsden tracked those tapes down in 2013 and ran the numbers the original team never released. For every 30 point drop in cholesterol, death risk rose 22 percent. The lower the cholesterol fell, the faster people died. In the over 65s, each drop of roughly half a point on the cholesterol scale carried a 35 percent higher death risk within two years. The trial is real. It was double blind. It was the gold standard design. And it found the exact opposite of what dietary guidelines were about to be built on. It sat unpublished for over forty years while the low fat, high vegetable oil advice became national policy. This was not a small study lost in the noise. It was the largest of its kind. And the finding that mattered most never reached a single doctor’s desk for four decades.

A new, first-of-its-kind randomized controlled trial on the ketogenic diet for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder with psychosis offers important insights into metabolic psychiatry and mental health treatment. In this interview, @bschermd sits down with Dr. Julie Milder to walk through the findings of this new study.

I prescribed statins for years before I realized I wasn’t treating the biggest drivers of heart disease. I knew they lowered LDL cholesterol. I wasn’t taught to ask whether lowering LDL automatically meant my patient would live longer or healthier. Those are two different questions.
