Happy Mothers Day to the Short-tailed Albatross! These endangered mamas and their partners will take turns incubating their egg. It takes around 65 days to hatch, and then there is still a hungry chick to feed! ow.ly/KB2a50OmQZf #ESA50 #Endangered 📸 Pete Leary, USFWS

The female osprey at the Fairgrounds was relentless in protecting her eggs through last night's hail storm. She was pounded by pea-sized hail and never left the nest. The eggs remain intact and we hope to see chicks in a few weeks. Watch live at boco.org/osprey

How's your #GlobalBigDay going? It's 8:30 on the East Coast but we're closing in on 5,000 species already—amazing! India, Kenya & Australia are leading but Colombia is making a move early in their day. Where are you birding today? More stats: ebird.org/globalbigday

The collection includes books about bird families and species, memoirs — you name it. If you’re in Milwaukee on May 19, stop at the park from 1-4 pm, & you’re sure to come away with some treasures. Also: learn about the UEC and its birding festival: urbanecologycenter.org/programs-event… 3/3

Our friend Jeffrey Paulson, maker of the Spiral Bird feeder, shared this video with us: a leucistic female Baltimore Oriole spotted in Dubuque, Iowa. He saw the bird off and on yesterday as it came to eat oranges on one of his feeders.

David Sibley writes: “What time of day is best for birding? Ask anyone, even a non-birder, and the answer will almost always be ‘at dawn.’ I used to repeat this myself, but over the years, I’ve come to realize that it is simply not true.” He explains here: ow.ly/ZbXH50OjBML
