@mikeprince62 Fantastic news. What better way to celebrate some long overdue sunshine than watching lapwings glow like rainbows...

@Birderman seems that I spoke to you too soon. I am at the disused airfield at Holmsley in the New Forest and there is a pair of lapwing here. They are currently chasing off other birds 🤗

@mikeprince62 Hi Mike, Thank you for your kind words. Still raw and devastated by the loss of The Moll but I know where you are coming from about healing the pain. I'm a sure a dog will find us when the time is right. Take care, S

@Birderman hi Stuart I just read about the loss of your dog in the paper today. It is a horrible thing to go through as myself know only too well. you probably don’t feel like it just yet but for me the best solution was to get another one as soon as possible. Best wishes.

@Birderman I know! First short rest before back to work. Had 110+ bird species along the way as well. Lots of pied flycatchers out of the blue in the last days - must have been a big arrival!

@ArnoldKath15525 Thank you for letting me know. Golden Pheasants are beautiful birds. Although they are not truly native, they do brighten the countryside.

@Birderman I read with interest your article on Golden Pheasants in the Sunday Express 5th November. We live in Buckland St Mary near Chard, Somerset, and at the beginning of October a beautiful Golden Pheasant appeared in the hen run. If I threw bread to the chickens he'd eat

@nomadbirder Nothing to test the BBRC. All these yankee warblers were ship assisted. Understand they stowed away on an Antarctic research ship in the middle of the Atlantic.

Just arrived back in Blighty after an extended month spent mostly living on board this lovely ship and doing bird surveys around South Georgia. Thankfully, i don't seem to have missed much in the UK in what i hear has been a quiet autumn so far...

How fitting birding guru Lee Evans should share his name with the hurricane delivering the greatest American rarity bonanza in living memory, with Bay-breasted Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, 2xBlack-and-White Warbler, Alder Flycatcher just a few of the goodies spotted in the UK ...

Unfortunately I can’t co-present @BBCSpringwatch this year. I had a stent inserted in April, which released a clot, that, this week, caused an embolysm! My demise has been greatly exaggerated; thanks to brilliant friends, wonderful family & the excellent @NHS. Go Megan & team SW!

Just to say I’ll be out of the loop for a few weeks, as I’m in Taunton hospital for checks after a small but worrying stroke. No doubt I’ll soon be bored witless and keen to find out who our latest PM is. Or maybe not. Love to you all for keeping me sane in this mad world. 🥰
