@JamesKonefal Merry Christmas, keep those pearls of wisdom coming.

@craig_round @WestMidBirdClub Knew you’d get one! I saw my first one in Speyside yesterday!

Lutley Wedge W.Mids 2/11. Pure #patchgold this morning in the shape of this stunning Great White Egret that flew over heading NW at 08.44am. #vismig (The first record at Lutley Wedge and 150th species for the local patch!)

@JamesKonefal That I can’t explain, other than a driver IQ deficiency

@BirdingSi Interesting, it's more annoying when it's on a straight busy road though and they don't realise there's another car in the next lane so you can't cross.

Another memorable Cairngorms' avian treat was seeing this ultra-rare snowy owl (Hedwig from Harry Potter) on the Ben Macdui/Cairn Gorm plateau. This very occasional visitor to the British mainland had taken up residence at the exact same place that others of its kind had done periodically for the last 100+ years.
That different birds have made their way to this patch of ground, no more than 5 square miles, is in itself remarkable, given that they come from the high Arctic. What makes this area so special? And how is it communicated through generations of birds?

@rothiemoon Blimey, I’ve seen a couple, this just made me to put them into BirdTrack. Spring is feeling generally slow at the moment, are other species down too?

@James__Shooter Couldn’t agree more Swifts are the best. 2nd May is the earliest local record for Swift I think, that’s the one to beat.

@pelagicbirder @SkyeBirdsBob Good to see you both too. Look forward to meeting again at the next rarity.

@craig_round @WestMidsBirding @WorcsBirding @Worcs_bird @WestMidBirdClub Happy new year Craig, hope 2024 brings you plenty more patch highlights.

The first ever Honey Buzzard at Lutley Wedge back in May was my undoubted patch birding highlight amongst many others in 2023.
Wherever your birding takes you in 2024 wishing you all a healthy and Happy New Year! #localpatch #vismig @WestMidsBirding @WorcsBirding @Worcs_bird
