Today, students from Somalia National University contributed to the planting of 1,200 Annona muricata seeds during Somalia National Tree Planting Week on 17th April 2026. Bisha Cagaaran is working towards a target of planting 5,000 Annona muricata seeds, a species that is currently declining in Somalia due to deforestation and environmental challenges. These Annona muricata fruit trees will support environmental restoration, enhance biodiversity, and provide valuable nutritional and economic benefits to local communities.

Bisha Cagaaran Tree Planting Initiative Bisha Cagaaran has brought together youth to participate in planting Annona muricata (soursop) trees, a very important fruit that is currently declining in the country. The organization is actively engaging young people and raising awareness about the importance of planting and propagating Annona muricata. All Somali youth, including those in the diaspora, can play a vital role in supporting and promoting fruit propagation and awareness. Many fruit trees are declining due to various reasons, including the effects of deforestation.

Today, we are sharing one of our most exciting moments. On 11 October 2025, Bisha Cagaaran delivered trees to the Office of Examinations and Certification under the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education. The delivery was received by the Director, Mr. Hussein Shirawe. Mr. Hussein Shirawe personally planted the trees, and after a few months, they have grown to this level. These trees will provide fresh oxygen, and many generations will remember his contribution and lasting impact on the ministry. Be part of writing the history of Tree planting initiatives.

From climate risk to food security, Somalia faces serious challenges due to water shortages in the Juba and Shabelle rivers, which greatly impact farmers. The country needs to focus on building a more resilient and sustainable food future, with greater emphasis on agroforestry and sustainable land management. Ensuring future food security is very important. It is necessary to discuss and debate the impact of declining water levels in the two rivers and the effects of climate change on agriculture and rural livelihoods

Deforestation has affected the country, and livestock do not have enough grass to eat today. Deforestation contributes to changes in the country's rain patterns. In 2015, the country destroyed 205 million hectares of native Indigenous forests. @BishaCagaaran

This clip was sent by a community member who planted this seedling. It has grown very well, and we are expecting that it will soon provide shade and fresh oxygen. In 2026, we expect that many people will plant at least one tree.

This morning, the Bisha Cagaaran team planted more trees at Lansaleti (Forlanini) Mental Hospital. Bisha Cagaaran first planted trees at this hospital on 17th December 2024. In 2026, the hospital responded to the appeal for more trees to be planted in order to create a greener environment and provide more fresh oxygen. These trees will have a positive impact on patients, staff, and visitors by improving air quality and creating a healthier, greener hospital. We sincerely thank the Director of Forlanini/Lansaleti Mental Hospital, Dr. Mohamed Jafar Ali, for taking care of the trees and for believing in and supporting the Green Hospital initiative. Bisha Cagaaran appreciates Dr. Mohamed Jafar Ali for his commitment to environmental protection and for looking after the hospital’s green spaces.

The trees that Bisha Cagaaran originally planted on 17th December 2024 have now produced seeds. Today, these seeds were collected, nurtured into new seedlings, and replanted to give back to the community. This initiative ensures sustainability by multiplying the impact of earlier tree-planting efforts and expanding green spaces for future generations. By replanting trees grown from the original seeds, Bisha Cagaaran continues its commitment to environmental protection, fresh oxygen, and healthier communities—turning one tree into many and strengthening community participation in climate action. 🌍 From one planting to many futures—together we grow. 🌳
