A Statement from @bishopbarres on the Death of Pope Francis

Please read the following statement from @BishopBarres regarding the events yesterday in Pennsylvania.

The Risen Lord moves through the locked doors of fear to lead us, to lead our families and to lead the world in peace.

This Easter, as we rejoice in Christ’s Resurrection, let us remember especially those who suffer in Ukraine and the millions who have been displaced by this tragic war.  Together we pray that the Risen Christ bring light to their darkness and give them peace.

Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan summons us to rediscover our vocation as citizens of our respective nations and of the entire world, builders of a new social bond.

God continues to sow abundant seeds of goodness in our human family. (Pope Francis)

St. Peter, help us to be faithful to your teaching

In his Apostolic Exhortation Rejoice and Be Glad, Pope Francis reminds us biblically that holiness is found in the small deeds and details of every day.

We need to be attentive hearers of the Word but the Word demands more of us. The Word needs to be activated through action and translated into action in the power of the Holy Spirit.

We need to be intensely biblical Catholics.  Von Balthasar [Hans Urs Balthasar in his classic work Prayer] emphasizes that unless we are deeply biblical we are prone to embrace an “imaginary Redeemer.”

The Word of God is a lamp for our steps on earth and a light for our path to Eternal Life.

A love for the Eucharist helps us to understand and love the Word of God.

The Word of God is a two-edged sword that transforms our lives.

Let us ask the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us a fervent longing to be saints for God’s greater glory, and let us encourage one another in this effort. From Pope Francis’ 2018 Apostolic Exhortation Rejoice and Be Glad.
