The most effective modern wars are often the ones nobody officially claims responsibility for. From Ukraine and Hezbollah to cyberattacks, hybrid warfare, and deniable operations, major powers increasingly project force through proxies, ambiguity, and distance. "War Without Footprints: Plausible Deniability and the Future of Proxy Warfare" by Andrew L. Peek examines how states use proxy forces to shift the balance of power while avoiding the visible costs of direct intervention. Drawing on cases involving Russia, Iran, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, the book offers a powerful framework for understanding how modern conflict is fought when attribution itself becomes part of the strategy. Praised as “a must-read for any student of war and diplomacy,” this is an essential book for understanding twenty-first century conflict cambriapress.com/WarWithoutFoot…

Nobody really cares until it starts to significantly affect them, & it will, very soon, but it's virtually meaningless to type about unless there are automated agents scraping it & regurgitating it somewhere useful -- because my threads sure aren't getting read by humans.

I wonder what could have been if I'd been able to do analysis for CSIS or CSE over the years. I do feel I was able to spot things over the horizon from quite a ways off, & identify vulnerabilities & needs requiring correction, but warnings were ignored until it became obvious.

The biggest story in global trade: Iran has established the 'Persian Gulf Strait Authority' to unilaterally control the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran is implementing an IRGC-run registration, vetting, and toll system, turning an international waterway into a bureaucratic toll road 🧵

I wish it had been taken seriously sooner, as it's been a long time in the rear-view mirror. x.com/Bit111111/stat…

@RachelNotley The levels of anti-democratic mockery here are legitimately a threat to international security on par (& synergizes, really) with what MAGA's been doing. It's driving a wedge through Canada, NATO, & the entire collective West. Just look @ Parker trying to mess with fed elections.

I've been pointing out that the feds have been sleeping on this for years. It's the sort of thing that threatens the entirety of NATO+, yet PMs have largely placated, ignored, or downplayed the UCP's demands & slide further into the alt-right, leaving us approaching a crisis.

Fife is right. Why would a sane Premier scream & beg for federal approval of O&G pipeline projects & then set a separation referendum that destabilizes all opportunities for potential private investment in those pipelines? This benefits only Trump's USA and risks all of Canada.

@RachelNotley Glad you are adding your voice to this. I was worried you'd left the platform too fully to speak out. x.com/Bit111111/stat…

@csiscanada Why do I suspect that there are no accommodations for disadvantaged groups with less-understood conditions like CPTSD, e.g. orphans trapped below the poverty line who can't afford a post-secondary education? Recruiters don't really seem to care to offer any info on career paths.

@NeurologistMom imo, CPTSD is a good starting point to look at for identifying symptomology & treatment options, as complex trauma is largely causal to this.

“Iatrogenic PTSD: When Healthcare Becomes the Source of Trauma” This is the term I suggest for describing what many chronic complex disease patients develop after repeated dismissal, invalidation, and gaslighting by healthcare professionals.

Isn't it wild that this is happening while at the same time, doctors don't mask and they still continue to suggest your ailments are psychological? Meanwhile, we have people exposed to Ebola being flown around the world... AND on Thursday June 11th, the World Cup begins. But respirators among airport staff? Healthcare workers? Collectively, everyone is just like... "Nah"

Researchers estimate long COVID could cost the US $8 billion in just 3 years through healthcare needs, lost work, and ongoing symptoms. The illness may linger long after infection, reshaping lives and the economy. theconversation.com/long-covid-wil…

@ZdenekVrozina Even more fun for those of us who already have CPTSD, then get medically gaslit & otherwise harmed by HCWs on top of it. It would be fantastic if the APA actually recognized its existence after the WHO already added it to the ICD, as medical education lags decades behind on it.
