@HikaAki Genshins Environment artists and music team are largely why I come back to the game.

This was striking to me when I started Genshin. I did NOT expect what I imagined to be a cheap BoTW-like to flesh out its world so admirably. The design, the lore, the music... They all play their part, allowing Genshin to truly achieve what Tolkien calls "secondary belief".

I hope next DMC actually gives us more NeroxKyrie on screen because I love them.

@plasmatacos Too much nuance to go into Twitter but if youre ignoring the quantity of stuff put out for the semantic argument of it not being done then sure I just fundamentally disagree with an assessment on that premise.

@Bit_Azure I don’t see it that way tbh, even my modern standards I see it as a failure management wise. It’s insane to me the announcement was in 2015 and it’s still not done.

Its very funny watching people use this as some slam against FF when that's kinda jrpgs in general I imagine. Kids arent playing final fantasy theyre playing fortnite, roblox, and gacha games lol.

i love videogame genre names. death stranding, the game thats whole thing is simulating walking, is not a walking simulator. final fantasy, a roleplaying game played on a computer, is not a computer roleplaying game. clair obscur, a french game, is a japanese roleplaying game

@plasmatacos You see it partially in things like Trails with the Cold Steel vs Sky peeps but that's died down somewhat. We're trying to get people to play "Final Fantasy 17" with no history of the franchise, like there's other factors working against it lol

@plasmatacos I mean let's say you want to join a fandom, and it's notorious for being dicks and combative, and everyone is telling you how stupid the other games are and warring over best one and stuff, you probably wouldn't be too thrilled to join that fandom either lol.

@plasmatacos Like the project management of Remake trilogy has actually been really good since Remake got out, including part 3 coming out a decent time, they just had to take it back from an external studio and stuff. They are in a much better spot now than they were 10 years ago.

@plasmatacos I dunno Part 1 was made and the turnaround on Rebirth was solid. They have foundation built now just gotta execute on it. Ishikawa might be cooking up something too. I'm not worried about KH but I fell off that train YEARS ago to be fair.

I sure do love the stress of planning an event to bring friends from FFXIV together to hang out for FanFest on our own terms during quite possibly the worst TSA crisis of our generation. Worrying constantly about my friends getting here without a shit ton of trouble. -_-

@plasmatacos I mean we're all talking about it like it used to be but I'd say/argue that they're doing better now than they did in the entire move between PS1 to the HD era atm. Lots of new interesting projects and stuff just need people to buy em and provide feedback without being crazy.

@Bit_Azure They have the history and talent to create unique characters that are hot and memorable for new fans but they cling to the idea that FF is some sort of icon when it’s really not at all anymore.

@plasmatacos Nah the Remake was a good move. It gave them an established IP name, let them find a fight system and overworld structure that actually kinda works, and can be iterated on in future. I'm a FF16 stan and I'll stand by FF7R being a better foundation atm for future entries.

@Bit_Azure They would had that money if they didn’t spend millions on a Remake project of a game that is not as popular now as they thought that took over 10 years lmao. Not to mention ridiculous marketing campaigns like live action trailers and renting the Tower of London to promote a game

@plasmatacos Yeah I agree with this. Iconography =/= the characters. Like imagining characters channeling the job systems or something or a new fantasy world entirely. If you wanted to go the classic character route you could have them use them as stands or something I guess? I hate it though

@Bit_Azure I would agree if they actually used original characters an not the protags of older games. “Omg that’s Terra, Cecil and Cloud in tech wear” said no one below 30. I genuinely don’t know who those games are for since they all get cancelled relatively quickly.

@plasmatacos (I love FFXIV but its held together by duct tape and chewed gum at places, but they're doing their best to fix a lot of the problems where they can)

@plasmatacos The funny thing is a good gacha slop game for FF as a brand using its iconography would go hard if Honkai, Wuthering Waves, etc are anything to by but they've claimed in the past they don't have that kind of money/budget which makes sense when you look at FFXIV lol
