Happy Bitcoin Pizza Day! ⚡ On May 22, 2010, the first real-world Bitcoin transaction took place: 10,000 BTC for two pizzas. What seemed small at the time became proof that Bitcoin could be used as money! We continue to onboard businesses here in the Tampa Bay area to build a circular economy. Yes — the AI is roughly correct. There are fewer than 20 true Bitcoin-native 501(c)(3) charities in the United States right now (organizations whose primary mission is built around Bitcoin, sound money, or Bitcoin education/culture — not just ones that happen to accept BTC donations). Most nonprofits that accept Bitcoin are traditional charities that added crypto as an extra donation method. Truly Bitcoin-first 501(c)(3)s like Bitcoin For The Arts, @OpenSats, @HRF, @bitcoinpolicy, @TXBitcoinFound, @bitcoinbaytpa, @SatoshiActFund, @MyFirstBitcoin_, @ProductionReady etc. are still rare. We’re all still early. To the artist (and anyone else with a project): We would love to work with you and help rally the small Bitcoin nonprofit ecosystem around strong projects. Bitcoin For The Arts exists specifically to support sovereign creators.
