Those were his exact words, but the caption strips out the context. Watched the full interview and his point was really that it is far easier to sit on the investor side of the table than to actually build, operate etc and take the punches that come with creating a company. And honestly, I think he’s right.

FTX had just crashed, and suddenly the offers started coming in.
CoinW. OKX. Even someone from Binance would eventually reach out.
Then came Bitget.
They offered one of the lowest salaries on the table, but I picked them for one reason: they had just signed Messi.
This was right before the 2022 World Cup. The World Cup Messi would go on to win.
It sounds ridiculous now, but at the time, I didn’t want to work for a CEX, I only wanted a campaign I could sink my teeth into. And as a Barcelona fan, I knew I could do some madness with Messi’s brand locally.
Then I joined and found out Messi’s image rights didn’t cover Africa.
I remember thinking, “Wetin I dey even do for here sef?”
Meanwhile, Cassava’s CEO had been trying to poach me for the longest time. We eventually met at the event pictured below in Nairobi, and he made me an offer I couldn’t ignore.
He told me it was either them or Bitget.
I said I’d think about it.
On my way back to Nigeria, I called my girlfriend at the time and told her the offer. She said, “Marketers don’t earn this much.”
I was also done with centralised exchanges. So the decision became obvious.
A few days later, I joined the Cassava team at a retreat in Accra, Ghana.
The rest is history.

Let me explain to you why this worked and how you can actually incorporate the same logic into your life.
Early in my career I was into sales and I had this mentor that coached me. He was really good at work he did.
He taught me a trick years that felt almost unfair.
Before pitching a decision maker, he'd say:
"I'm happy I'm finally talking to someone who can actually make decisions. You seem like a very decisive person."
Then he'd make his pitch and leave.
His close rate was ridiculous.
When I asked why it worked, he said:
"Because once people accept an identity, they start behaving in ways that protect it."
The cleaner gave him an identity and he did everything to protect it without knowing he was being manipulated.
