@HardeepSPuri and if you forced E20 down the throat without making the consumer even aware of the fact of what they're buying then that's just a scam you're exposing yourself, where 0 benefit was passed on to the user for using a lower calorific value fuel!

Look closely at the timeline, and the pattern becomes difficult to ignore. India imports more than 85% of its crude oil and accounts for 30% of oil demand growth globally. On 5 June, India took a major step towards reducing that dependence by launching E85 fuel for flex-fuel vehicles at Rs 20/litre cheaper than normal E20 fuel, along with the launch of flex fuel cars and bikes. Soon after, a coordinated controversy around ethanol-blended fuels began to dominate the conversation and fearmongering started. Consider the facts. E15+ has been used on Indian roads for over three years. E19+ for over 2 years. E20 has been available since April 2025. More than 20 crore two-wheelers and over 20 lakh four-wheelers have been running successfully on E20 fuel for nearly two years. Yet, as India accelerated its journey towards greater energy self-reliance, opposition to ethanol blending suddenly intensified. It is worth asking: who benefits if India remains dependent on imported crude oil or batteries. Every litre of ethanol blended into petrol helps reduce crude oil imports, strengthens India's energy security, reduces air pollution, supports domestic farmers, and saves valuable foreign exchange. Greater use of indigenous fuels also makes the country less vulnerable to geopolitical disruptions and global price shocks. E20 is a widely tested, verified, scientific, internationally proven and completely safe fuel for our vehicles. It is also a completely Atmanirbhar fuel which has made our “Annadatas” into “Urjadatas”. @PMOIndia @PetroleumMin @PIB_India @MIB_India @ndtv @ndtvindia @NDTVProfit

@HardeepSPuri okay genius then pass on the benefits to the consumer, don't keep the price same and ask user to "deal with the low mileage".

WHAT E20 CRITICS WON'T BE TELLING YOU. 1) E20 was made available for all 25 million petrol cars and 20 crore plus scooters in April 2025 last year. 2) In 2024, A year before that E19 was made similarly available. 3) About 3 years before that in 2021 E15 was introduced. So for 5 years these vehicles have been running on E15+ blended petrol. By now we'd be seeing CARS / TWO WHEELERS STALLED AT EVERY TURN IN THE ROAD. And if that were happening wouldn't insurance companies have increased their premiums? Wouldn't the 2nd hand petrol/scooter market have collapsed? On the contrary India's used-car market is exploding, outgrowing new-car sales to reach annual volumes of 6 million units. Valued at over $40 billion, the sector is projected to double to nearly $70–$82 billion by FY2031.

All those who have suddenly “discovered” problems with their cars and fuel economy may be disappointed to revisit what the UPA itself was saying. The then UPA Petroleum Minister accused the NDA of ignoring the interests of sugarcane farmers and promised Parliament that his government would blend ethanol with petrol. He even urged people to drink less so that more ethanol could be diverted for fuel! So where were all these catastrophic claims about engines and mileage then? Funny how people’s cars never seemed to complain when ethanol blending was UPA policy, but suddenly develop “problems” when the same objective is being implemented today through a phased rollout. The policy isn’t new. Only the politics around it is.

Dear @narendramodi and @nitin_gadkari, I urge you to heed science, reason, and the concerns of ordinary Indians. Here, I explain why India’s E20 policy hurts vehicle owners, water resource, and the environment; and helps the politician-middleman, the sugar, and the liquor lobby:

Maruti launched an E85-powered WagonR, but the price tag makes absolutely no sense. It costs ₹85,000 more than the regular (E20) version. Why would anyone pay a premium upfront just to get higher daily running costs? When you pay extra for an EV or a CNG car, it is a smart move because the fuel is cheap and you save money in the long run. The E85 WagonR does the exact opposite: E85 fuel looks great at the pump because it is roughly ₹20 cheaper per L than regular petrol. But then, ethanol has less energy than petrol, causing the car's mileage to drop by a massive 30% to 40%. Because the mileage drops so drastically, you end up burning way more fuel just to travel the same distance. The fuel discount is instantly wiped out, leaving you with a higher daily driving bill than a standard petrol car. So, who is this actually for? No buyer is going to hand over an extra ₹85,000 just to get terrible mileage, spend more money every single week, and deal with the massive headache of hunting down rare E85 fuel stations in India.
