Inspector Amy Scott has been diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. Amy is the police officer who stopped the murder rampage of Joel Cauchi at Bondi Westfield in 2024. Cauchie murdered five women and one man on April 13, 2024. Many others were injured. He would have killed more people but for Amy’s bravery that day. Scott was the first officer to arrive on the scene. She confronted Cauchi alone and shot him twice when he came at her with a knife. She tried to revive him using CPR but he died. NSW Police Legacy said today that Amy was recently diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. Amy’s wife, two boys and her family need our support. “This is a powerful reminder that even our strongest people are human, and this fundraiser has been created to ease the financial burden for Amy and her family during this incredibly challenging time,” NSW Police Legacy says. In relation to events over the last few days, i met with police this morning There will be rifle squads, not open carrying but present, and a police presence down side streets as the procession moves to ensure safety and will be doing a sweep before the event starts. They are taking this seriously and have acted brilliantly and bravely We have been in constant communication and will continue to be in contact until the event The police have been brilliant and the counter terrorism units are working long hours to ensure the safety of the event.
