It’s also the same with Tchouameni without a proper #8. Frenkie, when paired with Garcia in midfield, intuitively becomes aware he’s paired with a makeshift midfielder. During these moments, he ceases to take further risks to help Garcia escape difficult pressure situations. Frenkie has morphed into a perfectionist. There are countless moments where Frenkie ignores running triggers, turns and releases the ball by playing it safe. Yes he absorbs pressure to help his teammates, but does he absorb it to create danger? That barely happens. Every ball is always a calculated effort. Deliver the perfect short and long passes. Opting for perfection in most cases earns you nothing but few safe passing completions. Less risks = less damage. Pedri knows that and doesn’t mind the end results of losing the ball when creating danger.
