Gen Mkhwanazi confirmed, yesterday, that Matipandile Sotheni, a former SAPS Special Task Force member, previously served under his command before resigning from SAPS in 2019. He also revealed that he personally assisted in the suspect’s arrest last Saturday, underscoring the seriousness of the case. The General also disclosed that the private security company employing Sotheni voluntarily handed over an AK-47 fitted with an Aimpoint red-dot sight a highly lethal weapon.😣‼️ Ballistic tests are currently underway to determine whether the firearm was used in the #WitnessD (Marius Van der Merwe) killing. Describing the murder as a chilling reminder of the dangers faced by whistleblowers, Mkhwanazi noted that Van der Merwe was killed in front of his family in Brakpan.
