SA teams have added new dimensions to URC. But 6,603 for Bulls v Cardiff (52,000 stadium). Travel costs+lack of atmosphere harms appeal, and commercial value, of league. In Wales, PYS under half-full. Anglo-Welsh league a distant proposition but clamour for it is justified.

When will @bbcrugbyunion learn? No one wants to hear Jiffy interrupt the main commentator in-play, patronise Wales after every mistake and coach them at every opportunity. He wouldn’t get anywhere near a professional coaching setup, so why give him a mic to act like he could?

Dave Reddin just compared Welsh rugby now to English football right before Southgate took over. Passion but not great results. Imagine if, back then, you cut a quarter of the Premier League teams to make the England side better. Even if it worked, would that passion remain?

@markthomas157cb This is all about demographics surely. Rugby at regional level is not the working man’s game it used to be. You need good infrastructure around the ground, a train line close helps, good footfall and affluence in the community to pay proper ticket prices and invest.

The more you look at the WRU three team option the more ludicrous it is . Any sane person would go WRU Cardiff ,Ospreys and Scarlets . It is that simple , I am amazed no EGM been called . Reading the background of the selected board , it was all down to self interest .E Wales

@delmeparfitt You are making a huge assumption the Prem want welsh sides. And also I would imagine English championship clubs not being too happy if welsh sides parachuted in.

Going down to 3 teams is neither here nor there if they’re staying in the ridiculous URC. If you don’t have a competition people give a damn about then nothing else matters.
